So, I started the day with - finally! - taking out the vacuum cleaner and emptying the stupid thing. I hate doing that, my nose is always filled with dust afterwards - very unpleasant - but someone has to do it, right?

Anyway, I typed up the rest of Chapter 19 of Kansas 2 and posted it to FF.Net. Then I put up the next chapter of Torchwoodgate 1 to AO3 (BTW, [livejournal.com profile] adafrog, thanks for reading and commenting).

Then, while the rice for lunch was cooking, I baked a sponge cake with raspberry-cream filling for Mum's birthday, which is tomorrow. Here it is, I think it turned out just fine:

It's not quite this pink in real life, but the photo turned out way too pale, so I helped a bit with a photo editing program and overdid things, I'm afraid.

Oh, and I got my beloved iPad back from the neighbourhood! Apparently, all IT neighbour guy had to do was to restart it. I hope he's right. *fingers crossed*

Then I went to choir practice and am now preparing stuff for my private student tomorrow, before my very long night with the telly begins. [livejournal.com profile] meathiel, have you noticed that there are new episodes of Zuhause im Glück?

Oh no ... I hadn't ... I'll have to have a look.
But have you heard that this will be the last season? The show will be cancelled ... :-(

Really? That is sad. :( But, I guess, the people want to live their own lives, which is understandable. I miss the old crew, so very few of them were on the latest episodes. Today is a new one at 20.15, make sure you catch it, though.

Wow, that must have baked fast. It only take me something like twenty minutes to do rice, but forever to do a cake. Of course, not a baker and it shows. I hope that the iPad continues on well and there are no more issues.

It is a very quick cake: 3 beaten egg whites, 3 egg yolks, 100 grams of sugar and 6 grams of plain flour, in this order. Then you grease a baking tin (20 cm diameter), pour a tiny bit of flour into it, so that it just covers the inside of the tin and bake the cake for about 25 minutes on 190-200°C, depending on your oven. The filling was one of those things you just blend with milk, without cooking and fill into the cake when it's cooled. Not the most sophisticated thing but saves a lot of time.

Yeah, I hope my iPad will keep doing well for a long time yet. I'm very fond of it.

Still would take me much longer than it would to cook rice...

When I cook rice, it takes at least half an hour. Usually longer, ;)

What sort do you cook and how? I know the wild rice takes much longer, but my white rice usually cooks in like 15 minutes.

Simple white rice, which I set up with twice the amount of cold, salted water and a bit of butter and cook it on a medium flame.

Wow. I bring the water to a boil, toss in the rice and salt, then cover and lower the heat. It takes about eight to ten minutes. Crazy... maybe it's the brand or something...

I dunno. I was taught to do it this way and it worked, so I stopped experimenting. *g*
Except when I'm making risotto, of course, which is a lengthy process.

Of course, I totally understand. Risotto can be a pain in the butt, but so worth it. I only make it when I have both the time and desire. All that standing and stirring does a number on my back.
