Quiet days

I went to choir practice today. It was great to meet the girls again; even though I was there but 3 days ago, I sometimes feel as if I'm closing up on myself. It take an act of will to get up at a reasonable time, now that I don't have to. Still, I do get up around half past eight each day, mostly because the morning hours and the early afternoon are the times when we have natural light, and I prefer to do my writing and crafting by natural light.

Today, I wrote a scene to Kansas 2, worked a bit on my newest explosion box project - the one with the lantern inside - went to the post office, bought some craft paper (only two sheets, though, which I didn't really need, but they were too beautiful to resist), went to the grocer's and then to the choir practice. And that was basically all I did today.

I know I can afford to slow down a little, at least for the first time. But I'm so used to being incredibly busy that I almost feel a little guilty. Especially where the writing is concerned. I really feel that I ought to write more. And finally read something that I don't need for my writing. Perhaps I should dig out the Agatha Christie novels again or whatnot. All I read nowadays is fanfic.

Choir practice is going well, at least. We're practicing for the charity ball next month; just a short little gig. We're going to sing a simple Japanese folk song, then the humming chorus from Puccini's Madam Butterfly, and finally some Hungarian folk songs in three voices. There'll be a professional opera singer performing an aria from Madam Butterfly, and because of all this, the entire ball will have a certain Japanese flair. I'm looking forward to it and planning to take Mum with me as well. She always likes to come to these events.

Sounds like a good concert.

Maybe you need to take a few weeks and just slob out, get used to doing less?

You are free to do what you enjoy now. The concert sounds good.

Yeah, you can do what you like now, so enjoy it and take things slow. Life will find new ways to keep you busy soon enough on its own, no need to do it yourself. Getting back to reading books just for fun, not writing research, sounds like a good plan.

Oh, I can do less with the best of them - I just feel guilty about it, all the time. *g*

I'm very much looking forward to it. I wish I knew how to upload music to the internet. I got a CD with our entire Christmas concert on it, and I would love to upload at least a few parts of it, but I don't know how. May have to consult my younger colleagues - meaning the ones half my age. They are usually a lot more internet-savvy.

Actually, reading is very dangerous. Either it reminds me one of my never-ending WIPs, or it generates new story ideas, none of which I can really use right now. ;))

When you start to feel guilty about taking it easy, remind yourself of all those years you put in helping others and realize you've earned this time for yourself. Enjoy it to the utmost. I sincerely hope you do learn how to post music on the net as I would love to hear you and your choir. How wonderful it must be to open your mouth and really sing!

Singing is one of the few things that can lift my mood even on a really crappy day. Even though my voice is a far cry from what it once used to be. 40+ years in this education business wear off the strongest vocal cords.
