The Crack of Doom, Part Deux
Aug. 30th, 2018 07:08 pmAka: we're creeping deeper and deeper into Sauron's arse, thank to the central education office of our district.
We've been using a certain digital classbook system for several years. It has worked well enough, despite minor glitches. One of said glitches is that it takes an ungodly amount of work for the people responsible for digital recording to upload all the various data, from name lists to timetables and the heck knows what else. It usually takes a couple of weeks for them to get everything ready.
There have been whispers that the central office would insist on switching to another system eventually; the firm selling our current one wasn't willing to be bought up by certain parties that are in favour of the government. But Boss Woman happily announced at the beginning of this week of completely useless meetings that the old system apparently has been licensed for another year by the central office, so we won't have to change everything just yet. So the IT people rolled up their sleeves and started working, so that everything would be ready when actual teaching starts next Tuesday.
And then, 2 days ago, an official e-mail cane from the central office that we would be switching systems on September 1, sharp. Just like that. The IT people have done all the work in the meantime, many of the colleagues have already uploaded their yearly teaching plans to the old system - and the new software hasn't even arrived yet.
So we're returning to the methods of my long forgotten youth and write everything down in actual notebooks, until the new system gets installed, which can take two or three weeks. And then we'll have to type up everything into the new system again. Joy, joy, joy.
God, I'm so glad I only have 97 days left from this insanity!

Date: 2018-08-30 05:33 pm (UTC)I've just talked to a former colleague who says that they use the new system in the school where she's working now and it's actually quite good. But couldn't have the stupid authorities thought of it before people would do all the work to get the new term started? *headdesk*
