After the insanity that is spring's house cleaning yesterday, Mum and I spent a quiet day together. I cooked a somewhat more festive meal - asparagus ragout with chicken breast stripes and buttered noodles, as well as a soup from the cooking water of the asparagus and a mixed salad - and baked a white chocolate cheesecake, inspired by the re-runs of The Great British Bake Off. Mary Berry made a similar cake, and I was lucky enough to find the recipe online.

This is the end result:

I have to replace the raspberries because they're insanely expensive yet and would cost more than the whole cake altogether, and there was something wrong with the cake bottom - most likely the biscuits were grated too finely - but I'm fairly content with the results anyway.

I wanted to buy Mum some tulips because those are her favourite flowers, but the ones I could have got were already wilted, so I gave her a tin of pineapples instead, in gift wrapping, and she was happy with them. At least those would last longer than wilted flowers. *g*

Currently, I'm also working on a shabby chic explosion box for one of my beloved colleagues. It's supposed to be done by Teacher's Day, meaning that I've got about 3 weeks to finish it, and all children from her class will sign the tabs. I hope she'll like it.

Here are some pictures from the parts that are done so far:

Unlike the Kerala box I did last time, this has a greater variety of techniques. I used shutter cards, folding cards and the likes to decorate it, but I'm still trying not to overdo them because the papers I use are beautiful and it would be a shame to glue over the patterns with some "clever" desings.

Aww yes what a good mother's day! The meal sounds delicious, and the cake sure looks it.

The box is looking very nice already, and yeah, would be a shame to glue over the patterns, they're gorgeous.

Scrapbook paper is generally beautiful; unfortunately, it's quite expensive, too. This is not a cheap hobby. :(

The cake is delicious indeed and fairly easy to make. I made it with Cremequark instead of cream cheese, but I don't think there would be such a difference, really.

BTW, I've just realized that I forgot to post the last 8 chapters of Arthur's Quest to [livejournal.com profile] hiddenrealms, so I began to correct that error. Chapter 15 has just gone online, in case you're interested (and not too stressed-out to read).

I believe you! I've had crafting hobbies in the past and man, crafts supplies do cost a lot of money. Even now with just knitting/crocheting and such it does pile up, a bundle of wool here and there...

Yay for the new chapters! I do need to catch up to that story!

I've just finished posting the whole thing to AO3 as well as to [livejournal.com profile] hiddenrealms. Unfortunately, the AO3 crowd isn't very enthusiastic when it comes to comments. Although it's still better than the idiots who did comment on FF.Net, only to tell me what I should write, how I should write and how one of the minor characters (who only showed up in a total of 2 episodes) was completely OOC. *sigh*

You have been very busy indeed! Uploading is such a pain, especially with all the handcoding you have to do.

True. Fortunately, the greater part of it was already posted to LJ, so I only had to copy&paste it to AO3. The last eight chapters, though, were a real pain. But now the whole stuff is up to both places, so I feel quite accomplished. *g*

I feel you. I just realized it's been half a year or so since I cross-posted to FFN and since uploading there is always a pain for me, with FFN eating my coding, I'm dreading it.

That's odd! I never had any problems with FF.Net. The only thing it eats are the asterisks, but it does that for everyone. The main reason why I still post to FF.Net is because I can simply upload the files as I've created them with Word.

That's how it is with me and AO3. But FFN is a giant pain it eats everything.
