A Christmas present for a lovely colleague of my own age as a thank-you for the lifts she gives me after work.

The closed box with lid up:

The box, fully opened, with all layers visible. There will be a small Christmas ornament or some chocolate within, eventually:

The outer layer, with "glassed" windows on all 4 sides:

The middle layer, with flaps closed:

The middle layer, with flaps opened:

The middle layer, with flaps completely unfolded:

And the inner layer, in which the actual gift will be hidden:

It was a lot of work, but great fun, and I'm pleased with the outcome. I hope VP will like it, too.

It does look absolutely gorgeous, definitely worth all the work you put into it. VP is very lucky to get something so lovely.

She is a very generous lady who often gives me a lift when we finish work at the same time. And believe me, not having to stumble along the lengthy and badly lit street in which school happens to be, is a great relief, especially in these days when I always finish work when is already dark outside. The least I could do was to make her a very personal Christmas gift.

Thank you. I think I'm finally getting the hang on this particular technique. My personal favour is the outer layer with the little windows 'glassed' with cellophane and the birds sitting in them. I fixed the birds with double-sided puffy tape, so the whole thing has a 3D effect that I'm pleased with.

That is the great thing with these boxes: there is practically no limit how you can craft them. I even saw one that contained Merci chocolate bars that fell apart like an opened fan when the lid was removed. *g*

I hope so. She used to lead an origami workshop for the lower primary kids, so I think she'll appreciate it.
