Had interesting discussions about the Second Age, Eregion and the lesser Rings with the Edhellond crowd. Had interesting discussions with the Axe&Bow crowd about bonsai trees in Moria. Had interesting discussions with the SecondAgeElves crowd about Sindarin names. Was fun.

Said discussions - plus the documentary titled The Magic Sword I saw on German TV a few days ago finally helped the next chapter of Innocence out of the black hole. It's not done yet, but I hope to finish it next week. *crosses fingers*

Said chapter spawned a brand new story. *sighs* Those plotcritters are downright frightening sometimes. Wrote most of the first chapter, but won't talk about it yet.

Decided not to join the new community. Looked at the Members list and realized that with most people I'm on one of the same lists... or more. Besdies, I'm really not interested in the genre right now. Maybe later. Or not at all.

On the other hand, I joined the Silmarillion and the Medieval communities. I'll most likely be only lurking in the background, but it might be interesting nevertheless.

Recorded the Dungeons and Dragons movie from German TV on Thursday. Still haven't seen it. I wonder if I will, ever.

Moved forward and typed up the next chapter of Alternate Caretaker. It's almost finished. I hope my dear, gracious beta would resurface, soon, as I still have half a dozen finished but unbetaed chapters I really would like to post.

And that's about it, basically. Not much, but I'm content nevertheless.

It might be interesting for comparison's sake... I watched it (at least most of it), and I had to wonder how much of its ideas were stolen, and in turn, how much of PJ's ideas about Dwarves were a result of D&D... (e.g. their eating habits) ;-)

Really? You have just motivated me to watch it. I'll give a report here when I'm done. :))

Glad to see you around, BTW.

Looking forward to read what you thought.

Likewise. Actually, I found your journal rather by chance -- which is no wonder, because your name / email address / LJ user name are all different... ;-)

Yeah, I know. I wanted Soledad as my username, but it was taken already. It's so hard to find one, with so many people on LJ and all. That's why I put a link to my LJ on my ff.net author profile.

Sounds like a productive weekend :) I've enjoyed reading the recent Edhellond posts very much, though the topics were way over my head :)

I know... *rueful look* It's been more than a year that I last updated that story. It's all Erestor's fault, you know. Stupid angsty Elf didn't want to enter the ruins of Ost-in-Edhil and face his memories. Not that I wouldn't understand him to a certain extent, after all, there are some memories I wouldn't like to face either, but blocking me for a year? That's a little exaggerated, IMO.

Anyway, thank to German TV, I finally got the necessary inspiration to continue. Although, of course, it had to spawn a brand new OC and even a brand new story, but what the heck, I'm not complaining. Besides, I put the new OC into both stories, so it's even economical. ;)

That's what you think! You can't imagine the inferiority complex I'm developing every time when true Tolkien scholars enter a discussion! I mean, I'm reading a lot of background stuff and do ungodly amounts of research, but at the end, all that information gets mixed up in my poor head hopelessly, and I have to ask the smarter ones anyway.*g*

I've never seen Dungeons and Dragons either. Nor do I have, or ever really had, a Beta. Yes, a couple of kind people (Finch, Ithilwen, Klose) have read some of stuff from one story first, but I go it alone. You can, too, if you feel your finished chapters are right to be posted in your mind.

Yeah, but you are a native speaker, and I am not. I need a beta for cleaning out my English grammar (or the lack thereof). I do my best, but the use of tenses and prepositions is too much of a challenge for me. My own native tongue doesn't have them, and in German they work differently.

I have no problems with the content of my writings, but I don't want to be grammatically offensive. Plus I respect my own work too much to post gibberish. Which doesn't mean that I never post unbeta-ed stuff, but I avoid doing so if I can.

Fair enough, I'd forgotten English is not your native tongue. See, that's a compliment! Perhaps you'll have to ask around for a new beta if yours doesn't reappear soon.

Well, either that or her regular beta needs to get off her RL-overwhelmed ass and do some work for the woman whose Boromir arc brought the aforementioned lameass into Tolkfic.

(For those unclear on the message, the lameass would be MOI.)

Write me offlist and tell me what you need when - I'll do it.

I was talking of my Trek-beta, hon. :)) And she did resurface just yesterday. Poor thing had a serious case of RL, too.

As long as she's OK, that's all that matters.
