Yesterday I took Mum to the rheumatologist (nothing serious, she just needed to refresh her prescriptions), and while she was there, I went to one of my favourite DIY shop in the nearby shopping centre. I received a few coupons as a gift for said shopping centre, and most of the shops in there accept them, so I decided that this time I won't save them for buying gifts for family and friends but will spend them on my hobby.

I bought two packages of brightly patterned patchwork cotton, which I want to use for combined felt and fabric works - a new technique I intend to try out this year. Then I find some very cute wooden buttons, shaped as little suns, flowers and pretzels and indulged. I also found tiny little red-chequered bowties with a tiny little wooden button in the middle and bought a few. They will look great on gingerbread men made of felt. Or teddy bears. Or Easter bunnies. And a sortiment of coloured marabou feathers, really small ones, which I might use as angel wings for little figures made of recycled Nespresso capsules.

Yeah, I am insane, haven't you known before?

Then, last evening I decided to bake something - watching the Great British Bake Off always has this effect on me. I had a box of baking mix for a lemon cake in the larder, so I dug it out and made it. As you can see, it is a bit lopsided and ugly, but it tastes great nonetheless. I put candied lemon peel cubes on the top of it to camouflage the ugliness a bit. *g*

Today we had abysmal weather. It rained all night and all day - well, at least there was no storm so the balcony didn't leak again. Today, I took upon me the cooking (yesterday we ate in the shopping centre) and made lemon and garlic chicken. I don't use coriander, so I put parsley into it, but Mum said it was great, and I liked it, too.

Considering that this is the first time I made this dish, it turned out well enough. We ate it with pasta and a salad.

We always wasted on those coupons for buying gifts for ungrateful people who never appreciated it. So, this year I put my foot down and decided that they will be spent on me. Well, on Mum, too, should she find something she liked, but that is the limit!

Forgot to add: just yell if you want the lemon chicken recipe. It is almost shockingly simple and barely takes an hour to be prepared.

Es kommt von einem deutschen Kochbuch, also werde ich es auf Deutsch schreiben - das wird wohl kein Problem sein, oder? *g*

Zitronenhähnchen mit Koriander

Zubereitungszeit: 25 Minuten
Bratzeit: 20 Minuten
Für 4 Personen

Zutaten
1,2 kg schweres Hähnchen, geviertelt (ich hatte 4 Hühnerflügel);
2 EL Mehl;
frisch gemahlener schwarzer Pfeffer (meiner war keineswegs frisch gemahlen!);
2 EL Olivenöl (ich hatte Sonnenblumenöl);
1/8 l Hühnerbrühe, instant;
2 EL Zitronensaft;
2 EL gehackter Koriander (ich hatte Petersilie);
2 zerdrückte Knoblauchzehen (ich hatte Knoblauchcreme aus der Tube);
1 EL Sahne (ich hatte Creme Freche).

Zubereitung:
1. Hähnchenviertel mit gepfeffertem Mehl bestäuben. Das überschüssige Mehl abschütteln.
2. Öl in der Pfanne erhitzen. Hähnchenteile hineingeben. Aif beiden Seiten goldgelb anbraten. Die Hitze verringern.

Guten Appetit!

OK, now I am hungry!

Your spree in the craft store sounds wonderful! It is good to indulge from time to time and you make such adorable things from them and give most of them away as gifts, so really you were buying gifts for family and friends.

Your baking descriptions are making me drool! [grin]

And your lemon/garlic chicken sounds similar to one of our favorite dishes, Garlicky Roast Chicken, a recipe we found in the most excellent "Mediterranean Diet Cookbook" by Nancy Harmon Jenkins. (I hasten to add that it is a "diet" in the sense of "a way of eating," NOT a "lose weight" diet book. Lots of tasty recipes.) This recipe also has a lemon-and-garlic compaticum: wet bread, raw garlic and fresh lemon juice mashed together with a mortor and pestle. Mmmm... I joke that I can feel my blood pressure drop just eating a spoonful of it. And I'll bet it's great for keeping vampires away, too...

This is one of our standard go-to cookbooks. There are stains on some pages because we've used it so many times!

It was, although from a part with more meat and less bones would have been an improvement. ;)
