Boromir

If I were a character in The Lord of the Rings, I would be Boromir, Man of Gondor, proud heir to the Steward Denethor II, and elder brother of Faramir.

In the movie, I am played by Sean Bean.

Not exactly a surprise, is it?

No, it's not a surprise, but I should think you'd be enjoying it.

You have no idea how much...
*grins like a moron*

*grins back* Lap it up, love it, Boromir's very yummy. Never much liked book!Boromir but FotR movie changed that. Now when I read the book I like him lots and lots. Actually the scene that changed me was the one where he's teaching Merry and Pippin sword fighting. Boromir comes across as a very nice man.

Considering how much I hate the movies in general, it's a surprising fact that the first one made me truly discover Boromir and started me on fanfic writing in the Tolkienverse again. They added a few wonderful scenes for Boromir, which is the only reason I can tolerate at least the first movie.

That, and the exquisite acting of Sean Bean, of course. The man is truly great. I've never seen him in anything before, but he is great. I think I'll need to write some more Elladan/Boromir stuff, as soon as my muse decides to cooperate again.

[identity profile] jilba.livejournal.com 2003-12-22 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Whip thoses muses into shape! We need more fics to read and anything featuring males as gorgeous as Elladan and Boromir is worth reading!

I like Aragorn better now too, and Gimli. Also, the imagery is amazing and I can now 'see' middle-earth much better now.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2003-12-22 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting. I liked Aragorn *before* the movies, but I hate him like the plague now. The same is true for Galadriel. And I'm very unhappy with movie!Elrond, too. And with Faramir.

The landscapes are indeed gorgeous, and most of the sets are beautiful, too. Even if I find Rivendell much too decadent, and I don't think the Wood-Elves of Lórien would truly build *staircases* around their beloved trees. I understand, though, that it would have looked silly, watching the butts of the whole Fellowship while they are trying to climb the ladders up to Galadriel and Celeborn's tree house.

[identity profile] jilba.livejournal.com 2003-12-22 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yes, Elrond and Faramir have been done no favours by the movies at all. So different from the books and not in a good way.

Rivendell I like, Lorien was gorgeous, and yes while there may not have been staircases (or did Galadriel not like her dress being looked up while she climbed ladders?) the ladders would have looked silly in the movie. Moria was gorgeous, gloomy dark destroyed yet you could sense what it should have been.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2003-12-22 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I liked all the other sets, especially Edoras and the Hornburg. And the Gate of Mordor with the trolls opening it was very effective, too.

Rivendell *is* beautiful on its own way, I just find it much too decadent. It matches the brooding, Man-hating, fading movie!Elrond (save his warrior days at the beginning), but it's too much "Sezession" for me. While I find the artform decorative, I somehow can't associate it to Tolkien's Elves. Something closer to medieval codex illustrations would be more my idea. But that's a matter of taste, I think.

I haven't seen RoTK here, I have to wait another 4 days!!

Um, I think Rivendell was overdone a bit at times, but I loved Frodo's bedroom and the patio they held the ring cousel on. It was mysterious and fey, just like elves though. I guess it's all a matter of taste. I adored Bag End, just as a Hobbit Hole ought to be!

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2003-12-22 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
I won't see RotK until *January*! We always get the movies at least a month later than anyone else... maybe it's because the dubbing takes that long, I don't know why.

And I agree with you about Bag End. Actually, the whole Hobbiton was done marevellously. I wasn't fond of Bree and the "Prancing Pony", thoguh. It was made like something the Germans would call "eine üble Spelunke". Sorry, I don't know how to say it in German, maybe Jasta or Finch can translate for you. ;)

[identity profile] jilba.livejournal.com 2003-12-22 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, Bree and the Prancing Pony were plain grotty or grundy. Yucky, dirty nasty; Bree was awful. I always skip that bit when I watch the DVD, although the scene where the black rider rides down the Bree gate was awesome for that second. Nearly makes up for the rest of Bree.

Poor you, not seeing RoTK until January! I've been trying not read the spoilers, but gosh it's hard not to.

Ah, isn't he just pretty? ;>

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2003-12-22 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
He surely is. I got him in another quizzie, so I'm content.

I got this... (probably because I'd use the Ring if I could lay hands on it).

Wormtongue

Wormtongue

If I were a character in The Lord of the Rings, I would be Wormtongue, Man of Rohan, the chief counselor of Theoden.

In the movie, I am played by Brad Dourif.

Nah, it can't be the Ring alone - I chose to use it as well, and I got Boromir nevertheless.
Can it be that you attract creepy guys without wanting to?

Celeborn

Celeborn

If I were a character in The Lord of the Rings, I would be Celeborn, Elf, King of Lothlorien, husband of Galadriel and grandfather of Arwen.

In the movie, I am played by Marton Csokas.

Figures...a really old guy who's way too smart for his own good and whose time is fading but who would like to hang out around the trees for a while longer. These quizzes scare me occasionally!

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2003-12-24 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
His time might be fading, but he certainly isn't, himself. I guess being immortal does have its advantages.
