Short summary of my vacation

wiseheartI thought I'd summarize things in one post, so that those who're interested can get the basics. I'll go in more details about my booty later. *g*
The things I saw & the things I bought:

songfire3 picked us up on the railway station on Monday, after 18 hours of travelling, and we got to our hotel.
There Mum decided to go to bed and rest for a while; the two of us went out into the town and looked around. Among other things, we found places that sold DVDs, so I got myself both seasons of Sherlock - yes, I finally broke and gave in - as well as Camelot and Blood Ties. Sales are wonderful things; alas, also very addictive. It was only yesterday that I discovered the bonus DVD hidden in the second season Sherlock box, containing one episode of "Robin Hood", "Dr. Who" (11th Doctor), "Ashes to Ashes" and another thing I can't remember right now because it wasn't that interesting.
Then we went back for Mum, got something to eat and went to the Spice Museum. It was a hoot.
On the next day, we went on a sightseeing tour with one of those red doubledecker busses they use there for such purposes. It's very practical, b/c you can get out at any stop and continue later whenever you want to get a closer look at something. We were also on a harbour tour by boat, it was also very interesting.
In the third morning, we went to the Hamburg Museum of History, which was great, with fantastic makets about medieval life and stuff - right down my avenue, as you can imagine. Mum was a little (?) tired by then, but heroically came with us everywhere.
In the afternoon, we went to the Chocoversum, where we had a guided tour about the making of chocolate (and got a taste of every phase, as well as a small present at the end). It was highly interesting - I never tried fresh cocoa fruit before. You wouldn't believe, but the fruit flesh is actually very tasty; not entirely unlike mangoes.
After that, we took our leave from [Bad username or site: songfire 3 @ livejournal.com] and returned to the hotel, trying to get some rest before the big trip.
On day 4 we took the train to Lübeck, which was absolutely awesome. Mum heroically climbed all 60 or so steps up to the tower of the Holstentor, where a local history museum is located. Bit of interactive, too, so we had great fun. We saw several beautiful churches, the amazing Town Hall of Lübeck at the marketplace - although around the entire marketplace would be more accurate, I think and bought some marzipan to gift it upon our friends, as neither of us likes the stuff.
To the Holy Ghost hospital, now a home of elderly people, Mum didn't come with me - she was too drained, the poor thing. So I left her in the Jakobikirche for about 15 minutes and ran around to see whatever I still could in the neighbourhood, before we returned to the railway station. While we were waiting for our train, I visisted the nearby Saturn shop and bought Season 3 of Heroes and a boxed edition of the Ages-old, utterly hilarious British sci-fi series UFO. For dinosaurs like me, it was the one where the women had purple wigs on the Moonbase.
On day 5, we checked out of the hotel, stuffed our luggage into the locker at the railway station and went to see the Deichstraße, with ist lovely old buildings, and the City Hall of Hamburg, which was gorgeous. Then we returned to the station to meet the lovelyartemis10002000 - and a lovely meeting it was! Due to the cold weather - and the fact that Mum had steadfastly refused to bring any warm clothes - we simply boarded a bus and cruised around Hamburg to keep warm, while talking about all possible things.
We also went to the sci-fi shop "Andere Welten", where I got two movies I've been looking for since... well, since forever. The one is The Day the Earth Stood Still - meaning the classic, the one I've heard of when I was still in secondary school. I already had the remake with Keeanu Reeves, but let me tell you: it's nothing compared with the classic. I also bought "Enemy Mine", with Dennis Quaid and Louis Gosset Jr as the Drac.
So, this was my vacation in a nutshell. I'll post more about the stuff I bought when I've seen everything.
