Or happy Midwinter, or blessed Winter Solstice, or just happy holidays, whichever you happen to celebrate!

Celebrations at home:

We had a quiet Christmas Eve with Mum - just the two of us, the way we like it. Once upon a time we used to invite friends without a family (or with families they were better off without) to Christmas Eve, but they've either died in the meantime or drifted apart from us. So it was just the two of us last night.

We had Christmas dinner: Sauerbraten mit Semmelknödel and some leftover salad from the previous day, lit the candles on the Christmas tree (yes, real candles, even if they can only burn for minutes, for security reasons) and exchanged presents. I had some of the photos from our Swiss trip printed out for Mum, and she was very happy with them. I got from her "Soldiers Christi", a book about medieval knights' orders, like the Templars and the rest of them, and I was very happy with it, too.

I got prezzies from [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris and [livejournal.com profile] disthrainsdotte and a beautiful Christmas card from the lovely [livejournal.com profile] jilba, which, too, made me very happy. Other than that, not much happened - aside from the joyous fact that I finally made some modest headway with the Epic Merlin Fic(TM). Only a page or so, but still...

Oh, and I discovered that my record player died on me, too. Considering how old it is, I seriously doubt that it can be fixed at all. And my setellite receiver is frizzing in and out of function. *sighs*

There is some picspam behind the tag if you're interested.

Yum, the cookies look delicious! This really makes it hit home how many different kinds of cookies you have baked this year.

I'm happy you had a quiet, nice Christmas evening with your Mom. Ours was a quiet, small affair, too.

The tree is lovely as always, I'll make pics of mine later as well. I wanted to photograph it yesterday, but the batteries had died on me.

I wish I could send you the real ones. But as I said, they wouldn't survive the journey. So I sent you a tiny bit of Hungarian chocolate. I hope it will arrive, soon.

Thirty different kinds, to be accurate. And, unlike Tyr's tiramisu that he served an acquaintance, none of them is laced with strichnin. *g*

Baking relaxes me enormously. The results just show what a stressful semester we had at school. ;)

It's a reasonable size - just enough to fit onto the closed balcony, where it keeps till February, as a rule.

Holidays have been rather busy so far, but now I might actually get the chance to relax.

Well, Tyr considered cooking (and baking) a 'useful skill'. Although his recipes seem a tad more sinsiter than mine. *g*

Thanks! But you are missing half the fun. Go to http://aviv-b.livejournal.com/128929.html for the illustrations that go with the story!! (Hey and you can even leave a comment there if you like).

The cookies look awesome as always. I like the ones with hearts and the little pink ones that look like flowers.

They are both hazelnut cookies of different sorts. The rest are with almonds, with walnuts, with peanuts, with coconuts, with chocolate or a combination of the above, filled with apricot or red currant jam, respectively.

Hazelnut flavor? Mmmm... I've loved hazelnut (also known as filberts in some places, just as an FYI tidbit for a fic someday) since I was a little girl. I remember being surprised at seeing it in so many chocolates in Denmark years ago: I thought of it as an American flavor, but found I was quite wrong.

My best to you and Mum for the year to come!
