I haven't done any creative writing since [livejournal.com profile] picowrimo ended, and let me tell you, not writing for five consecutive days is something compeltely unnatural for me. And no, finishing Chapter 12 of "Vox Angelica" doesn't count, it was almost done, I just forced myself before the computer and typed up the last couple of paragraphs, which I hate. But I wanted it out of my hair.

You can measure the level of my frustration on the fact that I didn't even write them down by hand first - as a rule, I write everything down by hand first. Things that I don't have on paper don't even exist for me.

Anyway, this week I had to work in the mornings (only 3 hours each, but it can screw up one's daily routine). Then we had the big, annual "let's have the wall-to-wall carpets cleaned" campaign again. We had it scheduled for today, as weather forecast had promised war, and sunny, starting with Thursday. On Thursday, it was cold and rained dogs and cats. Mum's nerves were accordingly frayed, because by such weather, the carpets and the stuffed armchairs and other things wouldn't dry out until the evening, and then she'd have to share my bed - we tried it, believe me, it's extremely uncomfortable.

Thank God, it really turned warm and sunny for today, and we've even managed to put most of the things back to their place. Carpet washing means we have to move the furniture around, which in exchange means that we have to take all the china, the books, the videotapes, generally everything that's either fragile or heavy, out of them, as our furniture is heavy enough on its own right. We still have five bags of videotapes stored on the corridor next to the front door, but they'll keep until tomorrow. Unless the neighbour's two-year-old finds them interesting enough to invesigate. *g*

In any case, we're tired, the carpets are still wet, and yesterday was spent with the preparations while tomorrow will most likely be spent with the clean-up. And no hope to get any writing done - I'm just too numb-minded at the moment.

On a more positive note, though, part of the shiny shinies that the most wonderful [livejournal.com profile] the_wild_iris helped to organize has arrived yesterday, so I was watching "The Sarah Jane Adventures" while stuffing books and videotapes back into the book-case. I loved Season One and the first two stories of Season Two so far. Yes, it's a kiddie show, but ith as loveable characters, exciting plots and a healthy amount of fun.

I also got "Alien Nation", which, IMO, is one of the best sci-fi shows made, ever. A shame it only lived to see one seasons, but I liked the TV-movies coming up after the series' end, too.

Further writing plans will be discussed in a separate entry, when my brain has recovered.

*squee* Alien Nation! I only saw one movie, but loved it. Still considering whether I should try to get my hands on the TV show, tell me if the series is worth the trouble it will probably be to get it?

*hugs*

Hopefully you'll get it sorted soon and then be able to relax. :)

Sarah Jane Adventures is a good show - although I must admit I find it hard to watch a lot of it, especially with the episodes being so short and insisting on recapping at the beginning of each one. Glad you have new shinies to enjoy!

Alien Nation is incredible. If you can get the show, do so. You'll love all the thought they've given an alien culture, their biology, the whole world-building stuff. Very few other sci-fi shows have Mpreg as canon - not just an oddity like with Jack, but for all male aliens. Plus, they've got three genders, which is really cool.

If you can, you should get the novel by Judith and Gareth Reeves-Stevens as well. They work out all the background hints fully, and a great part of the book is from the Tencton's POV, showing their lives while they were still on the slave ship and how it came to the crash and stuff. Sort of prequel to the series.

Yes, I don't understand why most episodes are in two parts, but perhaps the Rustoid believed the kids have the same attention span as he does. I especially loved Maria's father. I was fully prepared to dislike Luke; child geniuses are annoying. But to my surprise, I liked him just fine.

I'm going to put it on my list for certain then! You already had me at the world building :)

Might be really hard to get it, though, I'd looked sometime last year and couldn't find it. But who knows, I might get lucky!

Is the series on DVD or video tape?

The novel might be easier to get my hands on, so I'll see about getting that first.

It's on DVD. Gemma got it for me as a boxed edition from amazon.uk, I think, for a fairly reasonable price.

The novel is fantastic, too. A bit depressing, granted, but still great. Even in Hungarian translation (the only way I could get it some ten or so years ago), it's gripping.

I checked, it seems to be no longer in store, but you can get it as a used book on Amazon. I'll get it once I've sold off some books. My bookcase is bursting at the seams *sighs* It's so frustrating! I have a load of coupons for this used book trading circle, but I don't have the space for books... And they never seem to have any of the DVDs or music I'm interested in, so I can't use them for that either.

I'll check out amazon.co.uk then! DVD is great, since I don't have a video recorder.
