Beacuse I needed a new story idea like I needed a broken leg...

Anyway, the title "Prince Arthur and the Quest for the Holy Grail" just popped up in my head yesterday, without forewarning. Granted, I've been dabbling in"An A to Z of King Arthur and the Holy Grail" by Simon Cox and Mark Oxbrow for a while, but that's nothing else than an oversimplified lexicon of the Arthurian legends, so it doesn't explain what might have sent the plotbunnies to breed so rabidly.

The basic idea would be a quest happening right after the end of Season 3, when Arthur has ended Morgana's short reign and Camelot is, basically, in ruins. Then Isilder, the head druid would appear and tell him that the only way to heal the wounds of the realm would be to find the Grail - which, in this incarnation, would be the Patene Serpentine. Yeah, I know it most likely isn't, and whatever I might come up with will be Jossed as soon as the 4th season starts, but that's my story and I stick to it. ;)

Currently, I'm trying to reconcile TV canon with the characters from the actual legends, and let me tell you, with so many knights killed off right at the beginning, it's not an easy thing to do. Nor is it likely that I'd start writing any time, soon. But doing all the background stuff is fun - and it's not so as if I didn't have dozens of unfinished stories already. Or stories that are planned out meticulously and I haven't even started writing yet. So, would one more really count?

I'm thinking of using a malevolent Guinevere. I wonder if I could get away with it?

Reconciling Merlin the show with actual Arthurian legends sounds already like a huge task without all the other planning this will entail, but it sure sounds like a very fun pet project!

As for using Gwen as a villain... Making one of the major characters a villain might lose you some readers, but ultimately, it's your story and thus your choice. If that's the way you want to write the fic, I wouldn't worry too much about what others think :)

Sounds like it would be an interesting story! Evil Gwen could be very fun, and I'm sure you would make it work.

I'm thinking along the lines of actually being the daughter of the witch and enchanting Arthur despite being interested in Lancelot, just because she wants to be Queen. *g*

Not that there would be any real danger of me starting the actual story in the near future, though...

Oh, you know, I don't really care what people think. I find the whole Guinevere as the serving maid idea so ridiculous that I can't help but be mean to her. She's an annoying canon Mary Sue, just like her namesake from Torchwood.

Hehe, I actually like Guinevere. Actually, Merlin is one of these few shows where I like pretty much the entire cast, it's odd! Maybe because Merlin is my feel-good show, so I make a conscious decision not to be as critical as usual.

I tried to like her, but failed. I like everyone else, though, even most of the bad guys (not Morgause - she's really boring).

My first random ideas about the story-that-might-be are here (http://wiseheart.livejournal.com/420010.html)
