Adieu 2010
Dec. 31st, 2010 09:16 pmThree more hours of the year over here, and what could I say about it? It was considerably easier than the previous one had been, what with Mum's illness and all, but the truth is, I count time in school terms, not in calendar years. That's just the way it is.
Still, it was a better year. We were reasonably healthy, I still have my job, even if the brilliant tax reforms of our brilliant new government (please notice the biting sarcasm here) led to the result that I earn less than I used to be and will earn even less in the next year, for the same work... or more.
Writing-wise I made spectacular headway, thanks to
picowrimo. Joining that comm was a godsend, I should have done it a long time ago. The interest of the other members, the chance to discuss plot devices and writing style and pieces of characterization with similarly-minded people, even if I didn't happen to know the fandom in question, or if it was original writing, was everything I've always dreamed of. Too bad pico only lasts a month; now that it's gone, I'm back in the grey zone again. But at least I can look forward for a month in each year worth living for.
I got to meet a few online friends in person this year, too, and I enjoyed my time with Lissa and the_wild_iris a great deal. Those short hours were precious for me. My life - my true, inner life - is so isolated, with no-one around me who'd really care for the things that are important to me, that I cherish every moment I spend with kindred spirits.
So here is to you, friends, who have spent your precious time with me and kept me out of the grey lands for a while. You are the best.
I'll post again in three hours' time to welcome 2011. May it be not worse than 2010 was. I'd be deeply content with that, despite the slowly spreading grey zones.
