Gaaah, the Autumn Cold of Doom again!

I'm sick like a dog again. And I was so proud of myself that I managed to avoid the COLD last autumn. Not a single day of sick leave, and not only because I'm slightly suicidal. *g*

But this year. I only fall asleep on the couch for less than an hour, and when I wake up again, I have the COLD, full force. Not the coughing and voiceless version, but the one when you feel like your head is full of wet cotton, you have dried icky stuff gluing to your airducts and your nose is an open wound from all that sneezing and nose wiping.

If previous experience is any indication, it will be going on for at least a week, and no amount of inhaling the damp of chamomile tea is any lasting help.

God, I hate the autumn cold! And this one isn't even bad enough for sick leave - you feel like death warmed over, and you still have to go to work.

Edit: Considering that my fever had managed to croach beyond 38°C last night, I chose to go and see the doctor, after all. Sick leave until the weekend, thank God - although not even sick leave is very pleasant when you actually are sick, I'd say. But still better than the alternative.

Poor you - yes, that sounds like the very thorough kind. Shouldn't you reconsider the work thing?

I probably should. But with no coughing and no fever, the doctor won't keep me on sick leave. Besides, my position at the workplace is anything but stable, so... tagging along despite everything is probably the lesser evil.

That knowledge doesn't make the necessity of spending eight (!) hours at school tomorrow any more appealing, though...

That's bad. I've only done relief work since I officially retired - so this could be out of date - but, unless it's changed recently over here we can declare ourselves ill for three dsy without needing a doctor's certificate - usually just enough to get over the worst of a cold.
Also, isn't it slightly shortsighted of your employers/the medical profession to encourage people to spread colds?

As you can se above, I went to the doctor, after all. Not b/c the COLD, that still doesn't count as real illness over here, but because of high fever.

I seriously considering finding myself a different doctor, though. This one didn't even care to examine my lungs, just looked into my throat and prescribed my coughing syrup - after I'd told her that I'm actually not coughing. Not yet anyway.

Well, yeah, you know the COLD is one of those woes where the only thing you can do is to keep quiet, keep warm and wait until it goes away on its own. Or, as we say here in Hungary: with a doctor it goes away in seven days, but without a doctor it lasts an entire week!

It's not the flu. I never get the flu, or any of the several dozen bacterial and viral infections the schoolkids so selflessly share with us. But if cold air hits my back or my throat, or I fall asleep without a blanket, this is the result.

Annoying, really, but not a new phenomenon.

Thank you. I actually went to the doctor when I found out that I have fairly high fever. A running nose is one thing, even if it runs all night like a leaking waterpipe, but you don't mess with fever beyond 38°C. Sorry, no idea what it would be in Fahrenheit.

Doctors who don't listen are worse than worthless. I'd enquire after a better one. *sends encouragement*

As for the doctor; she took over the praxis from our old one, you know the one who recently died, and we simply stayed, because it is in the immediate neighbourhood. So far, she was okay, but if she keeps doing this, I'll have to switch to another one.

It isn't so that I'd sit in her anteroom every other day - last time I went to her was almost two years ago. So, if I do, it's for a sound reason, and I can expect her to listen to me, I think. *is pissed öff*

The onion should be cut (in half is best). It's no wonder cure, but in my experience it does bring some relief. You can also put it beside your pillow, but that *really* stinks...

A doctor who didn't listen too well seriously damaged my aunt's health ten years ago, so it's not just hugely irritating.

I agree with ooxc that you should see about finding a new doctor. If she doesn't pay attention to your medical condition, giving you cough medicine against fever and such, she's no good. Better to start looking for a new doctor now (that is, when you're better again) than to wait until you're too sick to do it, too.

Boiling water with chamomile helped a lot getting rid of the dried icky stuff in my throat. Now I'm only coughing, shivering, have a slightly hightened temperature, a sore throat and other pleasant side effects. ;)
