... it's nothing personal. Just a lot of work, way too little spare time and a ruined thumb (through too much hand-writing in weird positions and too much typing, I guess). So I have my right hand either wrapped or in a bracer, and what little I'm allowed to type I spare for the "Atlantis Café" updates (read the latest on [livejournal.com profile] otherworlds_lib), as the story seems to roll forward rather nicely at the moment.

I'm sorry I missed much of what was happening on my flist *is contrite*. There were days I didn't even switch my PC on. Next week promises to be hectic, too, and I have to be careful with my hand, so bear with me. *hugs flist*

Watched the SGU pilot. Am not terribly impressed. Scroll down the comments if you want to know what I thought about it.

Thumb seems to have healed completely. *knocks on wood*
Work's still eating me alive. Well, at least tomorrow there's another "Primeval" episode to cheer me up. It's quite trash, too, but at least different. Even as a re-run, it can keep me in front of the telly for an hour.

Take care of yourself first, Dear One! Those "over-use" injuries ("repetitive strain injuries, or RSI, in US medical lingo) are a bitch. I know whereof I speak, having had 'em in both hands at different times.

So, hugs to you and wishes for full healing!

Hope your hand feels better soon! (I always wear a bracer at work, too.)

Ouch! Being unable to use your hand like you normally do is horrible and extremely annoying - I really hope your thumb gets better very quickly! Best wishes!

No worries about the flist, you should rest your hand now whenever you can so you can quickly go back to fun things like writing *hug*

Don't be sorry - be careful! Your thumb is more important than frequent updates. Please don't force yourself!! *hugs back*

Oh, I had a really restful day! We finally took down the Christmas tree (before the Easter Bunny builds its nest in the branches), cleaned the whole flat, cooked for Mum, made a chocolate-cherry-hazelnut cake for Mum's lady friend who comes for lunch tomorrow... no thumb-torture due to typing at all. *g*

Thanks. One gets a completely new understanding re: the important role of the opposable thumb in the evolutionaly process of mankind. *g*

It's somewhat better today. Apparently, lots of housework can prove therapeutic. Who'd have thought?

Well, I do some writing, even so... just not enough, by far. But it's really an uncomfortable thing.

The bracer is an annoying piece of equipment. It rubs my skin sore, and my hand sweats under it after a while. Wrapping the hand is better, but impractical - rolling up the whole thing whenever you have to wash your hands and whatnot... ah, well, I hope it will go away, soon.

Poor you, repetitive strains are horrible. Get well soon.

(As an aside: do you have a means of playing audio cassette tapes?)

Ummm, yes, I think. My music centre has a double audio cassette feature, if that's enough - why?

The thumb thing apparently wasn't quite as bad as I've feared. It still hurts from time to time, but it has got considerably better since the weekend, so I'm being carefully optimistic. ;)

Good news about the thumb :-)

That's lovely of you but I don't think so. I've had a hard enough time to get the movie faces and voices (save Boromir) out of my mind. A new set of given voices in my head would be counterproductive to my writing, I'm afraid. *looks sheepishly*

No worries! I just thought you might enjoy them. I'll find another home for them. (It's about fifteen billion times better than the films, although film Boromir is better.)

That's good to hear! Keep on resting it then, if you start again to strain it too early - no matter how tempting - you'll just make it worse.

*lol* Muses can be so evil!

Seriously, do keep resisting the temptation, though. Plenty of experiences with hurt ankles taught me that straining it too early even for just a day or so throws you back at the very least a week of recovery.

So the pilot of SGU is over and I actually got to see half of it. I could've seen more since I got home at 20:30, but I only remembered it's on at 20:50 *laughs*

I can see your point with the potential the series has. I certainly find the command structure tension and the presence of civilians who are not automatically part of the military hierarchy interesting, but on the whole... Well, it wasn't as I'd feared, but not anywhere near as good as I'd hoped. Can't say how much of that is due to lacking the whole character exposition early on in the episode which might have made me care about their fate, possibly even like them. As it's, I found the drama far too melodramatic. The only character I like so far is Dr Rush.

IMO it will be the missed out opportunity re: Starfleet versus Maquis (in Voyager) all over again. And I agree with you - it's nowhere near as good as it could be, even though I've acutally seen (and recorded) the whole double episode.

So far, the only character *I* like is Eli Wallace. He's cute. And he's chubby. And he loves his Mum, when sci-fi characters are usually supposed to have issues with their parents. What particularly angers me, is the fact that all women seem to be young, fresh, slim and sexy again. We've got the blonde Barbie bimbo, the dark-haired femme fatale who shags her immediate superior in a cargo room, the petite brunette with the trembling lips and the big doe-eyes *and* the supposedly exotic oriental woman. *All* of them under 30, ready fall for the heroes.

Excuse me while I'm going to the bathroom for a bucket.

Yep, you're right, the drama is seriously overdone. I only hope that the characters will eventually grow on me (Colonel Young actually might, depending on what they're going to do with him), because otherwise this will be one boring series.

Yeah, the women are a great disappointment. I've come to expect all women to fit the cliche, in sci-fi even more than in other genres, since the writers still only target the young male group, never mind that so many women watch sci-fi. But SGU really takes it to new extremes. Wouldn't have been too much trouble to include at least one middle-aged woman... or heck, one young woman with ordinary looks, I'd already be content with that. Well, let's hope they'll at least have personalities, though the latter half of the pilot I saw didn't impress me.
