Fanfic meme

I saw this on the journal of the lovely [livejournal.com profile] lethe_loyd who offers me the most interesting memes to do. I still dont quite understand how it actually works, but I've simply copy&pasted it below; perhaps others are smarter than I am. *g*

the old.
as a fanfiction writer, have you ever wondered what your 'winning' fic or your most well-loved fanfic is? this meme is for fanficcers who want to know which of their works are others' favorites as well as for readers who want to show more appreciation to the fanficcers.

the new.
it's a new year, and if you're anything like me, you've written more and more fic since the last time this meme was around. so we're gonna do it all over again, and see if your best fic according to others has changed any. this is also a chance for the new writers to see if they've got any favorites among fandom, as well. :)))

rules.
• List the fandoms you write for.
Well, let me see: Tolkien, Star Trek (TOS, TNG, DS9 and Voy), B5, Stargate: Atlantis, Andromeda, Queer As Folk US, Kindred: The Embraced (x-ed over with several other vampire shows, including Angel, Buffy, Poltergeist, etc), Brother Cadfael - have I forgotten anything? If I count the x-overs individually, I come to about a dozen fandoms.

• people will tell you what is their favorite fic/s by you (links appreciated); they can also leave other positive messages.

• since this is an appreciation meme, please do not start wank. (and by please, I mean I'll delete that sh*t pronto. - original quote, so don't shoot me for it, okay?)

So that's it. Feel free to comment.

I love Prisoner of Dol Guldur (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2250016/1/Prisoner_of_Dol_Guldur)
Well, I say love, it made me cry. I found it heartrending within the first paragraphs and experienced a kind of horror that any-one had experienced that. I know Tolkien says many Elves were thralls in Angband, but I don't read anything that has gone into the feelings of a long-term prisoner in such depth. I bawled, most stories don't have that affect on me immediately, they need a run up. :(

I know you are prolific and I am sure you've written more that I read before I joined any forums or archives, but probably did not note them then.

That's one of my favourites as well - among other things because it practically wrote itself. I didn't have to agonize over it for years as I do with many other stories.

No, you let us agonize reading it. * sniff * Incredible, visceral story!
I know I love that kind of story, but to say I * love * it is a little too simplistic, all I know is stories that move me that much are a sign of an excellent writer

I'm flattered. :)

Sometimes I wonder whether I should have put in a few more chapters before jumping to the Epilogue, but there wasn't much new I could have added, and I didn't want it to go on infinitely.

No, I know what you mean. You could have added more, I certainly would not have minded, but sometimes it feels right to stop at a certain place.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
That's very true. Adding more might have made the story better - but it also might have made it utterly boring and repetitive, because honestly, what else could have happened during Enadar's recovery? Getting better, having setbacks, getting better again - rinse and repeat...

Getting better, having setbacks, getting better again

I do see that as very likely however, not just a * miraculous * recovery.

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)
True, but it would also make a very boring reading, after the oh, say, seventieth repeat. Elves have all the time of the world, but we mere mortals have to speed up things to get anything done. ;)

It's probably no suprise that I'm especially fond of your House of Oropher stories. I loved Astonishment in Mirkwood and am amazed, looking at the dates on ff.net now, to realise how many years it's been... I was also moved by your stories about Valinor, like Elvenhome and Awakening.

My goodness, you've written a lot :)

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
I have, haven't I? And half a dozen of my stories aren't even posted to ff.net, for one reason or another.

I only wish to have the time to finish all those WoPs. Especially "Astonishment in Mirkwood" (despite the still-working title that I still find very stupid), which is one of my personal favourites, too, because it's set during "The Hobbit".

Oh, that's easy. Although I adore Halabor, my favourite fic by you is definitely Out of Legends :) Space vampires, ahoy!

[identity profile] wiseheart.livejournal.com 2009-01-10 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I had great fun writing that story, myself - despite all the ugliness I had to go through for it because I apparently was a meenie to poor wobie Sheppard or whatnot. Some of the nastiest reviews I got for Out of Legends (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3411081/1/Out_of_Legends) - only Alternate Caretaker (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1422824/1/Episode_01_Alternate_Caretaker) got worse ones. I had to remove some truly spectacular homophobic rants from my review board.

And I like both, so we can be evil together :D

A bit behind on commenting, but just had to say that my favourite has to be The Prisoner of Dol Guldur. Think I first read it here: http://www.tolkienfanfiction.com/Story_Read_Head.php?STid=604

It's heartbreaking - don't know how many times I've read it and it still makes me cry.

Awww, thanks!

The first title I remembered was Face of the Enemy (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1589452/1/Face_of_the_Enemy). But The Dying Stone, (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1001386/1/The_Dying_Stone) and Reflections of Past and Future (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1155282/1/Reflections_of_Past_and_Future) are also among my favourites, and of course I will always have a weak spot for my birthday fic, Felagund and the Noegyth Nibin (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1374451/1/Felagund_and_the_Noegyth_Nibin).

Those were the times, when I was still writing Silmfic regularly, eh?
