Heat wave

Yeah, it has hit again. And, of course, on a week when I have to go to school and get the kids to summer camp every morning. Just my luck.

Creative work has slowed down accordingly. Melted brain cells aren't a good, thing, I'm afraid. Still, I typed up a few long-overdue things and added the rest to the city descriptions of the Hanse of Lebennin. You can see the additions on the Otherworlds board.

Have posted the Dwarf story to SoA and FF.Net. Got three friendly enough reviews so far, which, considering how often I got nitpicked or ignored, is better than average. It won't be such a favourite as "The Web of Darkness", I guess, unless I add more battle gore, since it's basically about Dwarves, but honestly, I don't care. I think it's one of my better pieces, and I'm damn proud of it.

German TV started the relatively new vampire show, "Moonlight", last evening. They showed two episodes as starterss. So far, I like the concept well enough. It was a bit inspired by "Forever Knight", I guess, but it's different enough to be enjoyable. And I like the characters - even the blonde chick, which is a first for me. I think I'll give Mick St. John an appearance in "The Toreador Chronicles".

Other than that, summer holidays are going way too quickly. More than a week is already behind me - why must it always be the good times? *pouts*

Sympathy about the heat. It's not too bad here at the moment, after gale force winds over the weekend. I'm expecting more rain because Wimbledon is on at the moment, and it's hardly ever dry for the whole of Wimbledon!

Was approaching hot last week, then suddenly the temperature dropped some 30 degrees and it's like winter here. o_O

Summer breaks do pass by quickly, but at least you have them to enjoy, short as they may be. I know what you mean about dwindling creativity. Work seems to be sucking up all my energy.

Hmmm... perhaps these heat waves are going to be a new permanent weather pattern?

Well, I don't know why I'm so worried about dwindling creativity. It's not so that my fans would be hammering on my door, demanding an update. Even though "Web of Darkness" and "Out of Legends" had more success than what I have as a rule, every Big Name Author gets more (and exclusively positive) feedback for a mediocre update than I got for these two stories together.

Yes, yes, I know, don't look at the numbers, write for your own pleasure, bla, bla, bla. It's still frigging unjust. And as much as I'm honoured to be nominated for awards (and occasionally even get the one or another), if I had the choice between them and people reviewing each new chapter and telling why they like what they've read, I know what I would choose...

It is. *pat pat* But I don't think they really teach people how to review works in school anymore. At least they don't anymore over here. So a lot of people can't really go beyond the like or dislike and can't tell why something is good or not good or even why they like it.

Ah, the ongoing plight of us poor writers. I do agree that lack of feedback is the easiest way to lose motivation. What about regular writing forums where you have to review each other's works? Or maybe it's not quite right for fanfics.

Well, it was never thought over here and I manage to do so nonetheless. It's not about people not doing how to do it, I think. The faithful followers of the BNAs seem well able to do it. It's the incapability of us to gather a following.

Requires us to be about 20 years younger.

I'm glad you're getting to see Moonlight. It's pretty good for a vampire show. I saw a lot of people comparing it to Forever Knight and I understand why but I think it's a little more lighthearted. The blond actress in it is the same one who played Erika in Underworld. It's too bad it was cancelled as the later episodes start to get more in depth with vampire culture and introduce some scary older vampires.

Yep, I'm glad, too. I like it so far, and they've managed to found an interesting actor for the lead role, I guess. The fake interview at the beginning was positively hysterical.

NOt really. Some of the BNAs in my respective fandoms are my age or even older. It's just a talent that I apparently lack. And it sucks, as most of their stories aren't a bit better than mine (actually, a lot more repetitive and predictable) and yet they do have the big success.

I even saw my own ideas re-done once or twice, sometimes even without given credit, and *they* were congratulated to it. That makes me really pissed, you know.

[sending cool breezes your way... and a visit from a UFO to your school that picks up the kids and takes them to a REAL summer camp all summer long!]
