Okay, let's discuss the move first. And I mean this one. I saw it two days ago on one of the Hungarian channels. Well... it wasn't really worth my time, but as my satellite receiver is still trashed, I didn't have much to choose from.
Firstly, the synopsis, according to imdb.
There is also this comment by a relatively sympathetic viewer. I basically agree with it, although for my part, I found the spaceship design beautiful. And the Mars landscapes - I assume Australia, as Simon Baker was wasted as one of the uninteresting characters - was breathtaking. And I quite a bit liked Carrie-Ann Moss, although the end of it, the forced-upon "romance" with utterly unattractive Val Kilmer was an insult to both her and her character.
But the clichés.
- Humanity destroys Earth through pollution - check.
- They decide to relocate to Mars - check.
- Big Scientific Project(TM) to terraform Mars mysteriously ceases to work - check.
- Female spaceship commander has to endure idiotic, chauvinist male crew - check.
- Super robot malfunctions and runs amok - check.
- Most loveable character dies first - check.
- Most annoying character survives - check.
- Open end for possible sequels - check.
Fazit: It wasn't as bad as some other Mars movies I've seen, but it was... well, mediocre. I loved the visuals, though.
On other news, I finally have my new antvirus programme and a shiny new, digital satellite receiver (which still needs to be properly installed, so I can't use it yet), and will have to replace my main PC, soon, including printer, so I'll be well and properly broken for the next, oh, five years or so...
But at least "Out of Legends" is nearing its end. I've nearly done Chapter 18 and have begun Chapter 19 (yes, I write them back to back), so, I hope in another week...
Gah, I'm tired.
