All right, I saw the free TV-premiere yesterday.

My friend Attila keeps saying that we both have strange tastes. It might be true, as I usually can't enjoy movies everyone else is getting sooo excited about. Or books. Whatever. Well, at least Attila likes James T. Kirk, whom I utterly despise. But again, he's a guy, and guys usually like Marty Stues because they instinctively identify themselves with them. I guess women are more jelaous, which is the reason why we hate Mary Sues. But I digress...

Okay, Charlie. It was kitch. Utter, unblemished kitsch. So much so that I almost liked it. If only there weren't he case of the stupid and malevolent fat kid. I wish Hollywood would stop portraying overweight people as ridiculous or evil. That aspect killed what little I actually liked about the movie.

I liked the Oompah Loompahs or whatever they were called. They were funny, especially their musical interludes. And I liked Johnny Depp, although I usually don't like him. He has talent, though - even if it makes one wonder why the only seemingly normal character he played (in "The Astronaut's Wife") was actually possessed by an alien. *g*

But again, I have strange tastes. I'm probably the only person on this planet who finds the Harry Potter books poorly written and boring. Don't shoot me! I've tried, I really have, I even hunted down the English originals - with the same result: they bore me to tears. Perhaps I've read too many really good children's books, written by talented writers in my childhood.

Besides, I haven't seen a single incredibly popular, Academy Award winner movie that I'd have liked. Yep, I do have strange tastes.
