TV, books and domestic issues

wiseheartHey, British folks, does anyone of you watch "Primeval"? (Warning: there be spoilers behind the cut!)
I know it's probably not the highlight of episodic television, but I've grown very fond of it. Granted, the premise is compeltely insane, there seems to be no real connection between the episodes (aside from Cutter's wife), and the characters seem to be on crack or whatever, but I still love the whole thing. And I value it greatly that they had the balls to kill Tom in that Dodo-episode... a quirky supporting character who's been there from the beginning.
So, if you happen to watch it, what - or whom - do you like in it the best?
Also, I've finished The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. It was one big, fat disappointment. I'll probably write a long (and angry) review of it for the Otherworlds board when I can bring up the energy. Let's just say so much that for me the fact that the author obviously enjoys describing in loving detail how female characters get raped nullifies every good thing the novel otherwise might have. Even obvious extensive research, which I usually value.
Have had a weird sort of chest pain for a few days. Don't worry, it's not heart-related; been there, done that in my youth, know the difference of the feeling. This is probably a chest cold, especially since I remember cold air hitting my chest several times. Cold being relative, of course; but being his by air temperatures of 26°C while there is overall 36°C outside is 10 degrees anyway. So I took some aspirin and shrugged it off.
But last night was truly frightening. I had half of the window closed and the blinds down to keep the frigging insects out, and there was probably too little air on the 7 square metres I call my own. In any case, I woke up half past 2 in the morning, literally drenched in sweat, had a burning sensation down my chest (most likely from having drunk too cold mineral water when I had been very, very hot), my right ear (the one with the more prominent tinnitus) whistled like a steam engine, and was dizzy like hell.
I really felt like shit for about twenty minutes or so. Opened the window as far as it goes, walked around the flat, praying that Mum won't awake - the last thing I needed was her running around like an agitated hen - stood on the balcony for a while and just generally prayed for survival. Gradually, things eased down, and I slept like a log till morning, but it wasn't pleasant.
Now, the possibilities are : 1) a chest cold; 2) something I'd eaten didn't agree with me; 3) my blood pressure jumped off-scale due to stress (like getting used to Mum being at home all the time and stuff), or 4) any combination of the aforementioned three factors. Or it could be the heat and the regular exercise which I didn't do for years before, together. Whatever it was, it scared the shit out of me. I hope there won't be another episode like this, or I'll have to go and see the doctor, which I'd avoid if I can. The mere presence of doctors makes me sick.
On other health-related issues, my dental work (a so-called bridge covering two gaps and two tooth chunks) has lived out its "best before" deadline and has to be replaced in August - which's not such a big deal, I've had them for almost 30 years, so it's really time, just expensive. At least the eye doctor (I don't know the proper English word) hasn't found any problems with my eyes, which, considering my TV and computer consume, borders a miracle.
Aside from that, it's still hot like hell here. It will be cooler on Saturday, apparently - the very day when the annual carpet washing is scheduled to take place. And I really mean washing. After such a séance we usually walk on a wet floor for two or three days, even if it's very hot outside. Wall-to-wall carpets can be such joy sometimes.

But you are right. I don't really care for the plotholes, either. It's light entertainment, and I love it. The thing I'm crossing my fingers most for is that annoying government official (I forgot his name) getting his nose broken one day.

Well, I'm not that fond of Connor, either. The lad annoys the living daylight out of me. But I agree with you about Stephen: he's too pretty for his own good.
