Disconnected stuff...
Jun. 19th, 2007 10:42 pm... because it's hot here like in Hell, I'm totally distressed, and my brain doesn't function correctly. So, be prepared for the chaos behind the tag.
I've finished another chapter of The Toreador Chronicles. Alas, the new chapters still aren't linked to the secondary index page, because I'm: a) a sloth, and b) an idiot, who completely forgot about it. I also need to seriously re-edit Chapter 14 before posting it to FF.Net, or else the rabid Justin fans would tear the story to pieces, and I'm really not in the mood for hate mail again. The unedited version is on
hiddenrealms for adult readers - and I don't mean adult in the NC-17 sense of the word. Those parts are friends-locked.
I've started going to the fitness studio again, to build up some better condition for the Big French Journey(TM). It's rather nice, as I go around 10 a.m. when I can have the whole studio for myself, but it breaks my day apart. It's necessary, though.
I happened to get 3 private students who need to be prepared for the language profficiency exam in 2 weeks' time. I really, really didn't want to work during summer, but their teacher is a colleague and a friend, and she begged me to help them, so I gave in. Besides, they pay me - it would cover my fee in the fitness studio and then some. But it costs me a lot of time, and time is something I don't seem to have a lot lately, despite summer holidays. Ah, well, it's only for 2 weeks.
Mum's officially retired now. We're trying to arrange ourselves - with bumps and clashes sometimes. It's not easy, losing most of my alone-time. Perhaps it's part of the reason why I'm so stressed-out all the time. She's a great person, don't misunderstand me, but losing my freedom is very hard on me.
I've started reading The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett, in English. A colleague has lent the book to me, and I read it in the fitness studio while riding the indoor bike or sitting on some other boring machines. I like the book, especially because it's more or less contemporary with the Cadfael Chronicles. I prefer Ellis Peters' style, though, and her view on that time's society, but still, the book is well-researched and well-written.
Still haven't found any place that would order DVDs for me. It's very annoying. Amazon-UK offers boxed editions of Andromeda and the entire series Alien Nation (which only lasted one season) - both things I'm dying to have. My cousin (the freakish one who looks like Hugo Weaving) has re-burned me the Andromeda DVDs I got from
lhun_dweller ages ago, but still hasn't found his way to me with them. So I still don't know whether they'd actually work on my VCR/DVD player at all. Plus, it would be nice to have at least the first three seasons as a whole.
Earth: Final Conflict doesn't seem to exist in Region 2 version anywhere, save Season , which I've bought last year in Cambridge. Morons! Why bring out Season 1 and not Seasons 2-5? I went to the Babel English Videothek last week - they were closed, around midday. They used to open at 12, so I don't know whether they've gone bankrupt (not being in the phone book makes me suspicious about that possibility) or changed opening hours. Drat. They were my only hope.
Please insert here my regular whine about writing for the virtual desk drawer. I don't want to repeat the sorry litany again - you know the routine. Although having two regular readers for "The Toreador Chronicles" is nice. *hugs
rignach and
stormcrystal. You guys rock.
Did a little bit for Emissary of the Mark (the Elfhelm story) and for The Shoemaker's Daughter. Not much, though. They're extremely research-heavy stories, and though the basic plot of "Emissary" is completely written in Hungarian, translating and adapting it isn't an easy thing. Also, I've begun to add "The Last Yule in Halabor" to my GJ fanfic community. Backup is a good thing.
Actually, I intended to finish this summer "The Toreador Chronicles", the Elfhelm story, and probably "The Lost Warrior", too, which, if you remember, is part of my original Galactica/original Trek crossover series. Considering the way my summer is going on, I have little hope to succeed in any of this.
My PC is acting up in more ways than I can list it up. I hate when this happens, as I don't have any reliable person who could help me when help is needed and not a year later when other problems have joined the original ones.
Okay, I think I've just about summarized the current situation. I'll post the entry before my screen dies on me.
