Seven-of-Nine had an interesting storyline at times. The idea of an ex-Borg trying to fit in with the crew was a good idea. It's just a shame that they had to cast her as a Baywatch extra. It probably would have been even more interesting if she were played by a plain actress or an older one. And she could have been an alien species rather than human. How would a Vulcan or a Bajoran react to being a Borg and having their mind part of a Borg collective? How would it affect a Vulcan's self-control or a Bajoran's faith? That could have made for some very different storylines than the ones they did that simply played off of Jeri Ryan's looks.
Then again, I also thought they didn't do enough with the Maquis having to work with the Starfleet crew. It seemed too seamless on the show. I've toyed with the idea of writing a fic where a Bajoran Maquis member refused to fit in. Not by not doing work but by refusing to wear the uniform or practicing some other forms of passive resistance. But it's not a fully developed idea so I've never done anything with it.
