I just had to turn down the best offer I've ever got - and that I'd possibly ever get in the future - in any of my fandoms.

You see, I got this e-mail today:

Hey, I've been reading some of your Star Trek fanfiction and I have to say, I'm really impressed. The reason I'm emailing you is because I have a proposal for you. I enjoyed your writing and would love to have your help with a project.

I'm the Executive Producer of a Star Trek script based virtual series. A virtual series is sort of like a glorified fanfiction. It's concieved as if it was going to be a TV series with episodes, arc stories and etc and released as scripted episodes. It also tends to have lots of other media such as CG ships, characters and etc. All of which my series has.

My series is called Star Trek Legacy and in a nutshell, it's about the Enterprise-B. Basically, Legacy is dealing with the unknown years of the Star Trek universe, the years of first contact with Cardassians, the instability between the Romulans, Federation and Klingons and so much more. Season 1 is bridging the gap between TOS and TNG in so many ways.

S1 mainly plays around the Romulans, Klingons and an unknown player from the past. Lot's of action, subterfuge, darkness, blunt humor, and awesome characters. The current team I have now is working hard to ensure that Legacy is going to be one of the best series' out there and the feedback from our pilot episode has been positive.

Even if you have never writen script before, it's easy to pickup and a very enjoyable medium. I'm capable of writing an entire episode in 3 weeks(after planning and the works).

I was wondering if you might be interested in joining the team?

It's tempting. Very, very tempting. But with the Lost Years and the Alternate Voyager series waiting to be written, plust the sequel to Still Not in Kansas, just to name the Trek-related stuff and remain silent about the other few dozen unfinished WIPs, I just can't afford to get involved into something this big and time-consuming.

If I didn't have to work for a living (and work more and more for a less and less lucrative living at that), I might consider it. But the way things are right now, it would be irresponsible to accept obligations I won't be able to fulfill. It's that simple.

But damn it, it hurt to say no! Real appreciation comes my way so rarely, and never has to this extent before.
