In my misbegotten youth, when the Iron Curtain was still standing, we celebrated May Day in grand style. There were processions organized, with children singing and dancing and athletes carrying flags and performing their skill and all that. I always went with my Mum's workplace because it was fun; the procession went along the Place of Heroes, where a gallery was raised for the state (and party) leaders, from where they waved at the masses. Afterwards, we returned to Mum's workplace, having Vienna sausages and beer, and then we walked around the big place, looking at the booths and generally enjoying ourselves.

Yes, I know it was the local version of panem et circenses, but it was fun, no matter what right-wing agitators say nowadays. We have nothing instead of it. At least it's still a bank holiday, which is good for the poor slaves who still haven't retired.

So, there was no celebration, consequently it couldn't be shown on telly, either, and as it is a bank holiday in Germany as well, German TV ejected all the programmes they usually show on a normal workday, showing "festive" shit instead. Which means that my daily telly watching was cancelled and I did a lot of crafting instead. The 10 Wichtel are nearly finished; all I need to do is to sew the front and back parts together and (hopefully) add small bells to the hats later. I also worked a tiny bit on my other craft project, too, and managed a small amount of writing.

Other than that, I cooked in advance for two days (Mary Berry's Panang fried chicken with rice) and took Mum out for a walk. I think that's enough for one day. But even if it isn't, I steadfastly refuse to do any more work. *g*
