Nov. 2nd, 2022 06:04 pmMeaning me, of course. I went to the cemetery today to light a candle for my grandparents - yesterday would have been the day to do it, but yesterday everything was closed and I wanted to visit the craft shop afterwards. So far so good, practical plan and all - only that I didn't find my grandparents' urn niche. There is a tall and wide wall behind that particular church, full of niches, where the urns of cremated people are put, with little marble plaques where their names are... or whatever the surviving relatives find fit to put on them. Some of those plaques are truly bizarre, but tastes may differ, right?
In any case, I went first to the niche of Mum's old friend and colleague, and from there it ought to have been easy to find the grandparents. Theoretically. After all, I had no problems finding them back in June, and dead people rarely wander off on their own. Especially in a pulverized state. Or so I thought.
After roughly 40 minutes of fruitless seeking I gave in and called Mum on the phone. She had vague reminiscences of the grandparents being some three or four columns further down the row from her late friend. Well, she was almost correct. I found them six columns down, their plaque, as always, near totally covered by the big, bushy flowers from the niche below. Phew! I had looked for them much, much further down. Clearly, I'm getting senile!
To avoid such mishaps in the future, we jotted down the location number of their row and column. Hopefully, next time I won't be quite such an idiot!
Not much else happened today. On my way home I bought some frozen turkey nuggets for lunch, which turned out rather rubbery, both in taste and texture, so I definitely won't be buying them ever again. At least the Tütensuppe Mum made was yummy as always. I'm very fond of Tütensuppe - little work, immediate results and great taste. I can't be concerned if they aren't exactly bio or healthy.
