Farsangi fánk is a specific kind of jam-filled doughnut (although, theoretically, you can fill them with vanilla creme or chocolate creme, too), particularly popular at carnival time. Grandma used to make them at other times, too, and we loved them.

You can learn more about them here; there are also wonderful pictures and a recipe, too.

Now, I love a good challenge just like your next overexcited retiree, and I have done them previously - two or three times altogether. The problem is, you see, that even half a batch is too much for the two of us, and eating these things when they're two or three days old isn't exactly a delight.

So, we went to the Auchan supermarket with Mum today (we were too lazy to cook and had lunch at our favourite self-serving restaurant there), and I saw these wonderful fánks. They looked exactly like on the picture I linked to, they were fresh and they were on sale. We bought 4 of them, and since they weren't filled, I injected them with the delicious, home-made blueberry jam one of my colleagues gave me as a gift a year or two ago.

Tomorrow, we'll gorge ourselves at lunch and calories be damned!
