My latest baking adventure
May. 11th, 2018 11:29 pmAs an avid fan of The Great British Bake Off, I particularly like the Masterclass parts, where Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood share their tips and recipes with us mere mortals. Not long ago, in one of the re-runs, Mary Berry baked a fantastic-looking apricot and marzipan pie and I knew that I just had to try my hand at it - even though I personally hate marzipan.
I managed to write down the recipe in a great hurry (and even to read it afterwards), but I knew I only had a chance to give it a try if I got myself one of those eminently practical lose bottom tart tins. I saw the right size in St. Pölten, but it was insanely expensive (most likely because it was a Jamie Oliver brand), so I gave up on it. Fortunately, I found a much simpler one in the Auchan supermarket - unfortunately, it was about twice the size that I really needed - one with a 28 cm diameter, instead of a 20 cm one.
I bought it nonetheless, since the only other model was even larger, and made mental acrobatics to multiply the ingredient measures given by Mary Berry. Well... I did make the pie, but it turned out I didn't have enough filling for such a large one, so I had to improvise, filling the empty places with dried apricots and things like that, and my dough broke like whoa, so I couldn't roll it out properly. I can only hope that it will at least prove tasty when we tomorrow cut it with our guests.
Have a look at the poor thing. It's a bit ugly, the poor dear, but I put my heart's blood and all my love into it:
