England-Wales programme
Jun. 5th, 2011 10:31 amAs promised, here's the detailed programme of our trip to the British Isles in August.
I apologize for not putting it behind a tag, but I wanted it to be visible in its entirety.
Day 01, August 12. Friday:
- Not much is gonna happen. We'll be basically getting from here to there, with the night spent in Luxemburg.
Day 02, August 13. Saturday:
- We'll use the ferry to get from Calais to Dover, then along the seaside to Canterbury. Eventually, if there's enough time, we'll get a look at Walmer Castle and its garden.
- We'll spend the night in Dartford, which is apparently one of the suburbs of London.
Day 03, August 14. Sunday:
- First, we'll go to Portsmouth, to see Nelson's warship and other related stuff;
- Then we'll go to Salisbury, to see the cathedral and other historic places of interest;
- We'll finish the tour at Stonehenge, and then go on and spent the night somewhere outside Bath;
Day 04, August 15. Monday:
- We'll start at Longleat House, including teh safari park and a boat tour on the castle lake;
- Then we go on to Bath, to visit the thermal baths and the gothic abbey;
- Next stop will be Gloucester,to see the cathedral and the old town; we'll spend the night in Redditch, which, according to them, is south of Birmignham.
Day 05, August 16. Tuesday:
- Now we'll cross over to Wales, starting with Chirk Castle;
- We continue in Llangollen and visit the bridge of the River dee and Swallow Falls;
- Crossing the mountains of Snowdown, we'll come to Caernarfon, where we'll also spend the night, unless I've misunderstood the programme. *ducks*
Day 06, August 17. Wednesday:
- We'll continue along the seaside to Conwy and visit the castle;
- Next stop will be Llandudno;
- Then we'll take some old-fashioned tram to Great Ormes;
- We finish the daily tour at Bodnant Garden and will spend the next two nights in some sort of suburb of Liverpool;
Day 07, August 18. Thursday:
- We start off with a tour in Liverpool istelf, making a sightseeing tour in the Albert Docks, where Mum and I are determined not to visit any Beatles-related stuff. We just don't have any interest in that.
- From Liverpool, we'll go to Chester and be awed by its beauty, including the cathedral and the town gates; then we'll return to Liverpool for the night;
Day 08, August 19. Friday:
- We start the day in Lichfield and visit the cathedral (my inner Cadfael fangirl did some serious squeeing when I read that);
- Then we continue on to Stratford-upon-Avon, for obvious reasons;
- The next stop will be Oxford; I don't think we'll have much time there, these trips usually just jog through the town, but still; then we return to Dartford, near London, where we'll spend the next two nights;
Day 09, August 20. Saturday:
- The entire day will be spent in London; Hampton Court is the main programme, and the one I'd be actually interested in. The rest would be mainly sightseeing, which means exactly that: they'll show us Westminster, the Parliament and the Tower from the outside, then the City and St. Paul's. Since these are all things I've actually seen before (and from the inside, too), this is basically the time when I could leave the group for the second half of the day - assuming the people I might be lucky enough to meet can help me to get back to the place where we're going to have dinner in the evening.
Day 10, August 21. Sunday:
- That's already starting the way home; we'll visit Rochester and its Norman castle;
- We'll visit Leeds Castle as we go on; then we ferry over to France and continue on, spending the night in Luxemburg again.
Day 11, August 22. Monday:
- Spent on the bus, basically, getting home.
So, this will be it, basically. It sounds exciting and exhausting, and I'm looking forward to it very much.
