The newest chapter in the money saga
Apr. 7th, 2011 08:38 pmMum called the bank today to ask if they would exchange our 20-pound notes for the currently valid version. They told her flat out that they don't bother with such irrelevant things. Apparently, we haven't quite managed to arrive in Europe just yet, EU membership or no EU membership.
They told her that there is a small Ltd that does such things and gave her the phone number. Mum called the new number - something entirely different answered her call. Different people told her that yeah, the Ltd is often asked for on their line, they don't know why, they have never had anything to do with them. Mum asked them to verify the phone number. They graciously did - it was a different one than the one she had called. She called the original number again... the same people answered it. After the third try, she gave up.
She then called the phone information service, where they gave her the same number. She didn't try it again. She looked up the Ltd in the phone book and found an address, with the same number and a different number added as a second chance.
Mum thought she'd solved the problem and called the second number. Someone from a private household answered her call and told her that they don't have the same address marked in the phone book. Mum started getting really annoyed.
At this moment, she's decided to go tomorrow to the address marked in the phone book and see for herself whether there is that Ltd at all. If not, then we don't have any other step to make.
I'll keep you updated. This is better than CSI on any day.
