I promised them to [livejournal.com profile] elentari_valie and thought probably other people would be interested, too. We'll start with a time-honoured recipe of my Granny, "Vanillekipferl".

Ingredients:
250-260 gr white flour
70 gr white sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla-flavoured sugar
100 gr ground almonds
250 gr butter or margarine (room temperature)
vanilla-flavoured powdered sugar to roll them in it when baked

Preparation:
- Mix flour, sugar, vanilla-sugar, almonds and butter on a desk. Kneed it to a smooth dough. Rest dough (wrapped in tinfoil) in the fridge for one hour.
- Take dough from the fridge. Form a long roll. Cut slices (about the width of a finger). Roll them and form little kipferls (half-moons).
- Put them on a baking tin (on baking paper). Bake them in a hot oven (in the middle, in the case of a gas oven on level 2) for 15-20 minutes.
- Take the hot cookies from the baking tin and roll them in vanilla-flavoured, powdered sugar generously.
-They keep for at least 3 weeks, in well-sealed tin box.

Enjoy!

Another one of Granny's classics.

Ingredients for the dough:
140 grams of butter or margarine
250 grams of white flour
4 eggyolks
1 cup of warm milk (not too warm or the yeast would go wrong)
20 grams of yeast
1 tablespoon of white sugar

Ingredients for the filling:
200 grams of ground walnuts
200 grams of white sugar
4 egg whites, beaten to foam

How to make it?
1. Mix the ingredients of the dough , knead it and let it stand in a warm place for about 30 minutes.
2. Roll it out - it should be about half a centimetre thick.
3. Spread the filling all over it.
4. Roll it up with the filling inside.
5. Cut it up in slices about two centimetres wide.
6. Push together one side so that it take the form of little rosettes.
7. Bake it in a pre-heated oven until it's a light golden brown.
8. Roll it in powdered sugar mixed with vanilla while still hot.

Enjoy!
