Stargate: Atlantis

When the series started off, I hated it at first sight. Then I realized that I just hate the main characters: Dr. Weir(d), John Sheppard, that cheap Kirk-caricature, and Teyla Emmagan, Hot Babe of Outer Space (TM).

Watching the entire first season made me fall in love with Dr. Zelenka. Aside from the fact that actor David Nykl makes him an incredibly lovable geek, he's also the very first significant Middle-European character in sci-fi ever. Yes, I know Original Trek had Chekov. But Chekov was Russian - you need to have grown up beyond the Iron Curtain to understand what a difference that makes.

Anyway, I added Radek Zelenka to my LJ interests list, and through the link I found communities like atlantis_slash and welovezelenka. I found quite a few interesting fics featuring my beloved Czech scientist and engineer. One of the authors gave him an intriguing personal background, even. I'd never have thought of that, although there are some similarities between her idea and mine. Hers is better. Alas, it's taken.

So, I've re-watched the Zelenka-centered episodes, poked around a great deal on the GateWorld website (the bestest site ever, even though sometimes it takes forever to load) and write down the little ideas about the Andromeda/Atlantis and Andromeda/Atlantis/SG-1 crossovers. A few random scenes, too. In two years or so, I might write the stories themselves. *is very pleased with herself*

Of course, the main characters won't be treated gently. *evil cackle*
