Small things
Dec. 18th, 2005 09:43 pmThe concert went well today. We only screwed up one song spectacularly, but as it contained rather unsual dissonances to begin with, nobody realized, thank God.
It was... interesting to attend Mess again, after a year or more. I found that on some lever I still miss that sort of community. The ritual movements. The singing. The common prayers. On the other hand, I just understood again why I've migrated from the institution more than ten year ago. It was a very ambivalent experience.
The Halabor Advent Project is developing nicely. I'm almost done: only one full vignette to write and three half-written ones to finish. As I limit these to 4-6 pages each, I should be able to wrap the whole thing up by Xmas Eve. Finally a project that gets finished on deadline.
I acquired a very interesting new reader on FF.Net. S/he seems to like the series a great deal, but s/he also seems to consider it his/her holy duty to point out all the punctuation errors and grammar mistakes in the vignettes. I know s/he means well, but after the 13rd such review it starts getting a bit annoying. I wonder what s/he would do if s/he didn't like the stuff.
What's funny, s/he doesn't seem to know some old-fashioned expressions I found in some books and use in the series, and keeps asking whatever I was meaning with them. Ah, well, s/he means to be helpful, but I'd prefer if s/he offered to beta read for me instead. In that case, the review board wouldn't look like the editor's notices to a really shitty story.
Other than that, we washed the frigging bed-cloths today, or whatever the things are called in English. Tomorrow is the last regular school day - not that we'd be able to actually teach, mind you, the kids are way too out of their minds due to the upcoming holidays - and on Tuesday, there will be Xmas parties in each class, disguised as lessons. In the afternoon we'll have the teachers' party then, with some colleagues cooking and we singing the whole repertoire from today again, just for the others.
I'd have a lot of thoughts related to writing in general and fanfic writing in particular, but that will have to wait. Let's hope my PC won't abandon me until January, so that I'll have some more time for fannish purposes during the winter holidays.
