PC update #2
Oct. 22nd, 2005 12:34 pmSo, I've been without my PC for almost a week by now. Which means that I've paid for a week of unlimited Internet access without being able to access said Internet from home for nothing; and believe me, cable access is not cheap. All because the "friendly" guy from the neighbourhood hasn't been able to get his behind over and take a look at the cooling, about which I've been complaining him for at least three or four months. Now the fan is still dead, I still don't dare to switch my PC on, I'm still paying the Net access I can't use, and am fuming in the next best Internet café like a fury.
The local network at school managed to collapse two days ago, so we aren't even able to use the PCs for text processing and other stuff. Fortunately, I managed to upload a few stories to the Tolkien Fanfiction Archive on Wednesday afternoon. It only took me four hours, but it was long overdue. Well, I had to stop in the middle of The Joys of a Beard and unable to do anything about it ever since.
Strange Encounters was surprisingly successful. I got the same number of reviews for that story that I had got for the 17 other stories uploaded before - exactly 3. Unlike The Stories of Arda, TFF is an archive where a new (or previously unknown) writer has a hard time to get read. But at least they accept all sorts of stories, which is what I really needed. I'm thankful it's there.
I've written two and a half new chapters to Seal On My Heart - well, patched together would be a better word for it, although I managed to capture some Boromir/Elladan moments, and I think in the last, half-finished chapter, I've actually managed to move the plotline considerably into a drastically AU direction, which is a good thing for this story. But I can't type it up, as at school, even if the local network isn't dead, we are 50+ people for only two PCs, and my own, well, you know. Too bad, I wanted to post them to
dolamrothdame's birthday, as this is her ongoing bday fic, but that will have to wait. *le sigh*
I'm really, really mad at my neighbour. If he doesn't have the time to waste for my PC problems, why can't he say so, and then I'd try to find someone else. But promising and promising and leaving things half finished is a really mean thing. Especially when it costs me a lot of money, dammit!
