Advent 2025 - Day 1
Dec. 1st, 2025 09:34 pmIt was an... eventful day. I had to get up at stupid o'clock to hop over to Lidl, since they had finally stocked up on grated lemon and orange peels and I had to get those before my generation (the only one still having time and energy for baking) snatched them away. I bought ten little packages of each; not that I'd need so much for the rest of the Christmas baking, but I use them all year long, and pre-Christmas is the only time thy are actually available, at least over here.
When I got back, we had breakfast, and then waited for the talkative chiropodist lady to arrive. She was in great form today. She came at 10.25 and when I left at 12.40 she was still here. I had an appointment at the hairdresser at 13.30, but her constant chattering made me so confused I left my extra cash at home. You can only pay with cash at this hairdresser's. Fortunately, the hairdresser has known me for decades, literally, and besides she's making a house call next week to make Mum's perm, so I gave her all the cash I had on me (which was a little more than half the price I owned) and I'll give her the rest when she comes. Phew!
When I was made presentable again (well, as much as it is possible), I called Mum to tell her that yes, she will get that perm next week. She told me that the chiropodist lady had just left (at 14.30). Apparently, she had asked to watch some Turkish series on TV by us. Poor Mum, what could she do, said it was OK. The supposedly 20-minute-episode would have been bearable - but they showed a double episode today! Chiropodist lady sat in a fairly low armchair and Mum was panicking that she wouldn't be able to get out of it, due to her bad knees. Fortunately, she managed, but when she finally left, Mum nearly had a nervous breakdown.
When I finally got down (having done some more food shopping and visiting a craft shop), we ate the leftovers, and I intended to take a nice, long nap. Halfway into it, my friend Evie called and reminded me that she will come tomorrow and ferry my remaining wares to school. This had been the original agreement, but since we never discussed it since then, I thought she had forgotten about it (she had lots of school- and family-related stress lately). Clearly, she had not. So I called Eenie and told her the good news that she wouldn't need to pick me up tomorrow, which was a relief for her. She would have done it, but she'll have a tightly packed day tomorrow, so it's good that she wouldn't have to come my way, too.
Two more day till the fair. I'm very excited. I hope my stuff will sell like hot buns. *fingers crossed*
