Fair-y preparations
Sep. 1st, 2025 08:11 pmI've made the orange marmalade. It turned out thick like porridge but it tastes grand, thanks to the pinch of cardamom I added to keep the sweetness at bay. I know, the British would be probably scandalized that I call this... thing marmalade, but I read somewhere that marmalade requires the whole orange innit, and mine certainly has it - with the exception of the seeds - so it counts as marmalade... or does it? Anyway, it's done and I'll post a pic of the tiny jars as soon as I've labelled and decorated them, promise.
I also worked on my little pillow cases for the cherry stones. Two of them are ready to be filled, another five have been sewn together while turned inside out. Three more to go, then I can turn all eight of them back to the right side and seam them with blanket stitch. It's time-consuming, but doubly sewn they hopefully won't tear along the stitches; plus the blanket stitch looks very pretty. When that, too, is done, I can finally fill the pillows and sew them closed.
That about ate my whole day, so any other activities got postponed. I gave up the idea of the peanut butter cookies and put the whipping cream into the freezer. Tomorrow there will be banana bread and croissants in the making - bananas were drastically reduced in price at Aldi and I bought too much; and my ready-made puff pastry is about to reach its "best before" limit, so it has to be used up right away.
