Today I finally decided not to wait for inspiration to hit as it didn't seem likely in the foreseeable future. So I took out my felts and cut out the basic decoration items for all 12 sewing kits. Oh, there will be additional appliqués, I'm sure about that, but the basics are now done. And I even know which part I'll start the work with. I consider that a victory.

Not much else was happening. The flat is still cold, the kitchen project is still going on, we ate leftovers (no cooking - yay!), had laundry day and even had a short nap. My friend Evie called in the early evening to tell me about her mum's funeral; I'm glad she was able to talk about it. Oh, and another retired ex-colleague called in the early afternoon. She's noticed that I didn't attend to choir practice in the last two weeks and wanted to know if everything was all right with us. That was really nice.

Yay for getting the basics done! Basics on 12 sewing kits is something to feel accomplished for, even if the creative part comes later once you feel inspired. But this way, you can get started right away on the fun part when you have an idea!

Oh damn, I haven't been around in a while, this is the first I hear of Evie's mother having died. Was it recently? I hope she is holding up... well, as well as can be expected.

It's always comforting when friends ring because you haven't been around. It's good to know someone cares that much.

Now that's what friends are for, good friends, at least, who care about you!

Yes, it was fairly recent — but not unexpected. The old lady had advanced dementia and her organs were shutting down, one by one. It was a relief for everyone involved, really; but still a deep shock for the immediate family.

Yes, it is very true. It doesn't happen frequently, so one has to cherish the few occasions when it does happen.

Indeed. It's good to know that the connection isn't one-sided, even if sometimes it seems so.

Oh man, yeah, that's a very difficult situation. It's never easy dealing with the grief and letting a loved one go, even when they are only suffering at this point and death is a release.
