I've decided to take a crafting break before frustration would overwhelm me and do some necessary tasks instead. Starting with the grocery run, which went well enough, I only forgot two things I intended to buy (one of them even stood on my written list and I still managed to forget it). I shoved the shopping cart home, on which short way an old fart started bothering me about doing it, with the old b*tch on his side making disapproving grimaces.
Such things always upset me unnecessarily, because firstly every old lady in the house does it, and the next one going to Lidl then takes the cart back with her (I did the same on my way to the supermarket) and secondly, it isn't his business. He was carrying a shopping bag of the size of a handkerchief, I was pushing a full cart, loaded with bottles of milk and mineral water and soft drinks. I regret that the proper answer - namely that if I had a car or an idiot to carry my bags I wouldn't need the cart - came to me way after this unpleasant encounter. The weirdest part was that the two cantankerous old fools (probably not much older than me, but I do look younger than my years) actually waited for me to catch up with them, so that they could bully me.
Also too bad that one of our neighbours only caught up with me when the two were already gone. She'd have dressed them down to the pavement, had she witnessed the whole thing. Ah, well, I shouldn't take mean-spirited idiots to the heart, but I can't help the fact that my skin is waaaay too thin.
After breakfast and some telly I felt completely drained and decided to take a nap - which lasted two hours! Fortunately, we still had tomato soup (this time made from the scratch) and spanakopita from yesterday, so I didn't have to cook. What's even better, we'll still have some of it for tomorrow! I've bought Cesar salad and pork sausages and chitterlings, so that will take care for another two days. And a pot of quark, which means quark dumplings for the third day. Yay! I love it when I don't have to agonize about what to cook in the next couple of days. Cooking in itself is enough!
So, after lunch I continued my decluttering programme and sorted out six entire shelves. Well... five and a half anyway. Half a shopping bag is full of paper, which I'll take down to the selective waste, soon. Among other things I got rid of my very first (unfinished) Star Trek story, written half in Hungarian, half in German. It was a hard thing; Dame Agatha Christie compared such an act with the cat killing her kittens that are incapable of living. But I realized that a) I'll never finish that story, as I've switched to writing fanfic in the original language of the fandom, and b) I can no longer subscribe to the original storyline and idea anyway. Not to mention that I could hardly read it, as it was hand-written in very small and faded letters my eyes probably wouldn't be able to deal with. But it was hard.
So, all in all, it was a productive if not entirely pleasant day. Hope for a better one tomorrow.

Date: 2025-01-11 12:33 am (UTC)I have a bit of time, so I've read back a few weeks. Sounds like you had a relaxing Christmas and your New Year is starting off well. The dolls sound intriguing, the little ones are sure to love them. Hope you get a lot of writing done!
My son and I celebrated Christmas in the morning then went to the hospital room to celebrate with Bobby. The day after Christmas, they moved him from the General hopsital to a much smaller Skilled Nursing Facility which has less intense therapy than the Rehabilitation hospital he was at a month ago. He is improving somewhat, but still not back to where he was before the operation. He is still wheelchair bound. The goal is to get him back walking with a walker, but it seems the road back will be a long one. The therapists wanted to extend his stay at the Skilled facility, but I dont think our health insurance will cover that, so he will probably come home this Wednesday and I will have to pay a sitter out of my own pocket to help with his care until he is strong enough to be helped by just me. Health care truly sucks in this country and with the conservative majority come to power for the next four years, what health benefits us seniors do have will most likely be reduced. Anyway, will just keep our fingers crossed he continues to improve and can get back some of his indepence.
Hope you and your Mum have pleasant days ahead. Take care and Happy New Year.

Date: 2025-01-11 05:17 pm (UTC)I hate such encounters. Those people are weak characters and only act when no one is there to defend their victims. Alas, I have a quick tongue and often will send them off with a lot of things they can ponder over ...

There used to be great old school soul food restaurants here in Oakland. I haven't had chitlins in ages. Can't even blame it on covid, they went out of business before then. :(

Date: 2025-01-11 08:15 pm (UTC)You know, they might have thought I was a homeless person (not that that would be an excuse). I was wearing a fairly run-down jacket, with the hood up because of the wind; we have a few such unfortunates camping on the public benches here, and they sometimes use such carts to store their meagre belonging. The comment of "taking other people's things" might have been addressed at that.
