I had to cook today - in advance for tomorrow as well, as tomorrow we'll have a visit from our chiropodist lady, aka the chatterbox. So, in a light bout of insanity I decided to make (close your eyes, [livejournal.com profile] noadvertising) cauliflower strudel. Nothing very complicated, save that I had to take the cauliflower apart, chop the ham, grate the cheese and find a way to use up the parts of the cauliflower that didn't go into the strudel because only 500 gram were required for it.

So I also made cauliflower soup, putting the boiling water of the thing to good use. The smell in the flat after all this was indescribable. *g* But the strudel is very yummy, even though I underestimated the power of the dried chili flakes I crumbled into the filling. Spitting fire might be on the programme for the next two days or so.

Today was both physiotherapist day and choir practice, so I didn't have much time left in-between all these things. I did write about half a page (mostly out of sheer pig-headed stubbornness) and also did a bit of work on the next pencil holder. Mostly mundane stuff like cutting out the linen and the burlap and starting to sew them together. Nothing finished, though. But there's always tomorrow.

On my way to choir practice I paid the Chinese (or Vietnamese?) drugstore a visit, so our bathroom is refilled with deodorant, talcum powder, body lotion, shower gel and the likes. My policy is: one of each in use and one on the shelf, so that we won't have to run like headless chickens when the one in use runs out. One has to be practical at my age.

Cauliflower strudel sounds good. Though I could do without the chili, I guess

I use the same principle with cleaning and bathroom supplies. There's always one in use and a spare. I can't imagine running out of anti-perspirant in the middle of summer.

Me neither, considering how ungodly hot our summers can get.

It was only a tiny little pinch! It just turned out more potent than expected. In the end, it isn't too bad, even Mum liked it, and she isn't into "foreign" spices; for her it's salt and pepper and parsley and that's basically it. *g*

It’s a mystery how cauliflower (and broccoli) can smell so awful and taste so good!

That's a matter of perspective, I guess. I offered a piece to our chatterbox, who said it was yummy but she couldn't taste the cauliflower in it. *g*

I am smiling because I, too, was cooking to do at least 2 days yesterday and ended up with something with a bit more heat than usual — I think, in my case, it was the ginger that packed a bigger punch than expected. I made the Chicken Dhansak curry I first made for my 'try a new recipe a month' year in 2015, which will feed us for 3 nights, I think. (I skipped the yoghurt and coriander.)

I believe in one in use and one in the cupboard for bathroom, and cleaning, products, too.

Yep, our spicy strudel was enough for three days, too. I like to try out new recipes as well, but we are not really into hőt spices.
