My big adventure
Apr. 19th, 2024 07:14 pmToday I made my farthest journey in the last four years (because the dentist, whose practice is on the other end of the city, doesn't count). I went to a shopping centre on the outskirts of the city that supposedly had a newsagents that sells German magazines. Well, it turns out they do - I bought two crossword puzzle books that will serve me for a couple of months. Alas, not the handy A5 format but the ones big like bedlinens, but beggars can't be choosers, right?
I haven't been to that shopping centre since before the plague, so I discovered to my delight that Tedi had opened up a really big shop there, too. So big indeed that I was exhausted when I got out at the other end. But I found some keyrings, even though not the size I actually wanted, but at least keyrings, so it's good. I also bought some lace ribbons, some sewing decorations (little hearts decorated with beads), a small bag of really tiny buttons (important to decorate hand-held felt items), some simple steel sewing needles (because the ones with the colourful glass heads are sh*t; their points break off at the slightest provocation) and even some nicely shaped Velcro pieces to sew on (without the self-adhesive back, so they hopefully won't be so hard on the fingers).
Afterwards I took the bus to "our" little shopping centre (the one nearby that I love, even though the newsagent's closed, unfortunately), to do the grocery shopping. That means I won't have to do so for the rest of the week, even though I managed to forget the eggs. But we still have enough to bridge us over the weekend. And I bought a 500ml container of caramel ice creme, since it was on offer, and we both love it. It went amazingly well with coffee after a lunch consisting of leftovers.
Before my grand journey, however, I had worked a bit on the baby book. Page #1 is more or less done; I still have to add the embellishments and glue the finished pockets on, but that's easy. I think I had hesitated this long with it because the original seemed so unnecessarily complicated and I didn't know how to simplify the design so that it would still look good. But I had a lightbulb moment in the morning, so it's good.
After all this, I was fairly dead on my feet, so I decided to be lazy for the rest of the day. Had a nice, long chat on the phone with my friend Evie, watched some telly with Mum, and now the day is nearly over. Again. It's frustrating how fast time flies by.
