Done!

My hopelessly lopsided pot holder, that is. Behold:

I sweer, it was more or less rectangular when I started! But the fabric is old and stretches way too easily, so when I was done with the quilting and lining and seaming, this was the result. Ah, well, Mum liked it, and that is what counts. One down, half a dozen more to go. *groan*

Other than that, it was a busy day. Firstly, we had laundry day, like on every Saturday. And I spent the morning at Lidl, Aldi, the Auchan supermarket, the pharmacy, Tedi and Pepco, respectively. Bought some craft supplies I absolutely didn't need, but they were sooo pretty. Come on, who cold resist buttons that look like brightly patterned, fat cats (among other things)?

Nearly lost my credit card at Auchan; a good thing that the lady at the cashier spotted it and gave it to the security guard. *phew!*

Oh, and I bought a new nightshirt/gown for Mum to replace the one the paramedics had cut up. They sell these nice, light... things as nightshirts, but we both tend to wear them as gown for in-home because they are so very comfortable. No fashion sense, I know. *g*

We still had some leftovers from the day before yesterday, so all I had to make was the broccoli cream soup, which took about ten minutes of work. But I had my sweet pain with the asparagus that appeared at Aldi for the first time (and for the price of platinum or so, but I bought it nonetheless). I really need to get a working veggie peeler somewhere, no matter what it costs. My good old one went AWOL (probably landed in the rubbish bin occasionally) and the other ones all have this ridged edge that tears the veggies instead of peeling them. Which is extra annoying with asparagus. But I forced the thing in its knees (in about 40 minutes instead of the 15 it should have lasted), and as a result, tomorrow there will be asparagus quiche with ham. Yay!

There will be also chestnut cake, since I'll have to switch on the oven anyway, so we'll have some really nice food for the following two days.

I've tried to call some of my friends/ex-colleagues (the two are basically the same), but no luck. Ah, well, perhaps the one or other will call back. Or not. We'll see.

You've had a busy day!

Oof yeah, you need a new veggie peeler, peeling asparagus with a bad peeler is just too much pain. That's already a pain with a good one

The good thing is that they are basically all within two tram stop's radius.

Wow, that was quite a productive day of shopping! Love the pot holder, both nogstalgic and pretty. Asparagus quiche sounds delicious. I love quiche, but only have ever tried Lorraine and spinach. They sell those at the local market --- heat and eat. I've never tried to cook a real one.

Quiche isn't so complicated to make; less so if you can buy ready-made shortcut pastry. Then you just have to lay out a baking tin with it, fill in whatever filling you prefer, mix eggs with cream and pour over it, add grated cheese and bake.

The pastry is the only somewhat tricky part, as I make it myself and there's always the chance that it won't come together as it's supposed to, but I've decided long ago that it doesn't have to make perfect. If I have to, I apply brutal strength and press the torn pieces into the tin by force. ;))

I always admire the way your blanket stitch looks so even and neat.

Apparently veggie peelers tend to end up in the organic waste bin! Same here!

And always the really good ones, dammit! I have three more or less useless ones, each of them a real pain to work with.
