... is the feast of St. Benedict, whom I've always respected greatly. Of course, it comes from the fact that the congregation I once wanted to join (but left after two years for reasons) was based on St. Benedict's Rule, but I kept respecting him even after I had left the convent. What I value most in his teachings is the discretion - which, in his terms, means something entirely different than we understand it now. By St. Benedict, discretion meant to judge every brother by his own merits and needs. Weakness was something he accepted, instead of considering it a fault, and he was decidedly against extremes. Many people could learn a great deal from him, even in these times.

Especially in these times when being tolerant and understanding has long gone out of fashion.

Okay, that was the philosophical addition to the day. Otherwise, I spent the morning at the post office, the bank, the pharmacy, the supermarket and three different shops that sell craft supplies (Kik, Pepco and Tedi, respectively). Spent a great deal of money, which is always liberating. *g*

In the afternoon, I've decorated the third batch of cookies made yesterday, prepared things for the last leg of Easter baking, which will take place tomorrow, and by the time I finished that, it was evening already. I know I've whined about this several times, but the older I get, the faster the days are over. *sigh*

No writing today, and only a tiny bit of crafting before I'd have started my grand tour through the shops.

More tolerance and understanding is always a good idea, and something we all need!

Wondering through craft shops is always fun. We don't have any dedicated craft shops in my town, but we do have shops with craft sections. I find it very difficult to keep my hands in my pockets when visiting them.

There was a very interesting article in today's daily: It's the most intolerate generation ever which is taking over. Oeko freaks with absolutely no sense of tolerance, wokes terrorising (wasn't being woke once a noble attitude)... there'd be more to add to the list!

Most of these are shops with craft sections; I've found that they actually have better stuff for the average crafter than the dedicated craft shops — those cater for wannabe artists first and foremost and are full of ready-made gifts, too.

I know. It is very depressing, actually.

We could all learn from Father Benedict.

I remember my grandmother telling the school-aged me that every year was shorter than the previous one. The same seems to be true of days, too!

And thank you for the philosophical addition to the day — I think St Benedict was a very sensible man.

I think so, too, yes. Which is why I love him so much.

One of the funniest instructions of the Rule is that choir brothers shouldn't grumble when they have to help the lay brothers with the harvest. *g*
