... our day, I mean.

I started with baking savoury scones for the guests. Then I helped Mum with her morning routine, and started making lunch, since we were supposed to have lunch before the guests would show up, which we managed... barely. They arrived shortly after 2pm.

So we were having social life, as well as a bit of help: the husband installed the new armchair wheel. Now I know how to do it next time... hopefully. Will have to buy some more replacement wheels, as the new one is slightly smaller than the old ones (I didn't find the same size), so we'll eventually replace the other three and put them away in case the second armchair suffers an accident, too.

Yeah, horribly boring, I know. But that's what my life looks like in these days.

I left Mum with her guests then and went to choir practice - on a roundaway route, via a small shop that sells sewing supplies. It's been on sale for at least half a year, so I was pleasantly surprised to find it still open. So pleased that I spent an unreasonable amount of money on flower-shaped buttons, in various sizes and colours. I used up part of my stock for the songbook, so I needed replacements, but not so many replacements. But I thought I should use the chance as long as the shop is still there, right? I also bought two iron-on ornaments: two different snowmen, both extremely cute. Why is it that the best Christmas stuff always shows up when Christmas is long over?

Choir practice was nice enough. The ersatz concert is on Saturday, and it seems that our conductor's pet contralto solo singer won't recover from a painful ear problem by then. So I might actually get the part. Not the way I dreamed of (I actually like this person and feel sorry for her illness), but if it happens, I'll still be happy. Is that terribly selfish of me?

I don't think it's selfish at all to be happy about the chance to sing, it's not like you are wishing ill on the other singer. But if she must be sick, at least something good is coming out of it for you.

Good luck with installing the other armchair wheels, I hope it goes smoothly for you.

I think binging on the sewing store now is reasonable, stores like that keep closing down more and more so you gotta make the best of the opportunity,, especially with a sale.

Alas, there was no sale, but I decided to stock up on small things nonetheless. I'll do so each week before choir practice as long as the shop is still there, I think.

Thank you. We'll need all the luck of the world; giving an ersatz concert after almost a full month's break and with only three chances to practice will be tricky. But we are determined to do our best.

You'd be happy to get the part, not about the other person being ill. It's just coincidence that one would be the result of the other. Moralisch einwandfrei :)

That sounds reassuring, thank you. :)

How nice for your Mum to have company. And just think of the possibility of doing the solo part as a spot of good fortune for the conductor, having you able to do it :)

I'd try to think that way, assuming it really comes to me doing the solo. I'll believe it when we're there and I'm actually doing it. It happened before that it was taken from me one hour before the concert.

Glad you had some socialization.

Nope, not selfish at all to want to sing a part.

You’re a contralto? How lovely! Contralto voices are so wonderful to hear. Good luck with the solo, if that happens.

Not selfish. It's good to shine sometimes, and it's not like you gave her the ear infection. I used to buy all my Christmas stuff in January sales. (I don't bother so much now that I've decluttered.)

I don't think you're selfish. I believe it's normal to feel that way, and you do feel sorry for her illness.

Your decluttering is heroic. I'm light years away from even starting to do it. *g*

I can even sing tenor in original height. Sometimes we sing pieces for mixed choir (without the bass, of course), and a colleague and I are the tenors. *g*

Well, Mum had some socialization. But I had choir practice, so it's okay.

That is true, I do. I still feel vaguely ashamed, though.

The roundaway route to choir practice sounds like fun! You will have to do it more often! Good luck with the concert!

I hope you get the solo and that your choirmate feels better soon. Glad to see your day went a bit better than the one before. Sending you some friendly hugs (( )).
