... was quiet and lazy - just the way I like it. Well, family visit would have been lovely, but the kiddies are ill and their dad has Covid, so that wasn't an option. My cousin called in the morning, though - he's on the Azores with his second wife -, which made Mum happy, so it was okay. The rest of the family called yesterday.

I worked a bit on the snowman's wardrobe in the morning, and then spent the rest of the morning to hunt down some old, hand-written notes for the sequel of With the Weapons of a Woman", which I felt inclined to think about a bit. It's supposed to be a much shorter story than the first part, and it ought to have been written years ago, but my current circumstances aren't the best for writing. Still, I've selected a notebook and copied in the planned layout of the story onto the first page, as well as a character list, so it's at least something.

We had yesterday's side dishes for lunch, and then I played Solitaire and read fanfic on Methuselah, the geriatric laptop. My lower back still has that dull ache in it that makes life just a little bit miserable; I got up that way in the morning about a week ago, and if experience is anything to go by, this will last for a couple of weeks yet. It's a recurring problem I struggle with from time to time ever since I managed to lift Grandma in the bed in an unlucky angle, back in 1996. *sigh*

So, not much to tell, really, but a restful day was long overdue and I shamelessly enjoyed it.

Wouldn't work for you; it requires the complete absence of family. *g*

I had a very lazy Christmas too — sadly I was too unwell to go to the family festivities but my siblings and I have agreed to meet up around new year to make up for it! Hopefully I can catch up with my darling nieces then too. I will be living on the salads and fruit I had prepared for Christmas lunch for a few days!!! The fridge is full and I won’t have to cook, hurrah!

Restful days are the best. Having done family Christmas Day I am enjoying a very quiet day, today. Just me, the TV and hot chocolate.

Alas, it is usually a lengthy process. If I knew a good chiropractor I'd go there, but I don't. And experimenting with one's back wouldn't be wise.

I have no problem with it, either.

I'm glad you had a good day. Yesterday was our quiet day of reading playing the odd computer game, and watching quiz shows in the evening.

I sympathise with you about the back. Mine gets something similar for similar reasons — and it nearly always seems to misbehave over Christmas (this year being no different).

Sorry I have been absent for awhile. Have had a busy January, so will summarize and then catch up on what you and your Mum have been up to. Christmas day we opened presents in the morning, then had a light lunch of I forgot what, lol. I cooked Shrimp gumbo with French bread and a green salad with asparagus for Christmas dinner. Ryan's girlfriend, Tamra, came for dinner and I cooked her salmon instead of gumbo, as she does not eat it. A very quiet Christmas but we enjoyed it. January then turned cold for our area, we had temperatures below freezing and I had to brave the weather to insulate the water pipes. Unfortunately, all the stores were out of pipe wrap. I had bought two pool noodles a long time ago to use for odd things, like keeping boots from flopping over in the closet and protecting the edge of furniture for little ones, etc. So, I was able to use the pool noodles in spots to insulate the pipes. For the parts that the pool noodle would not work, I draped coats and clothing over the pipes. We lucked out, and for the 3 episodes of sub freezing weather, our pipes did not burst. We ran water at night and left the sink cabinets opened, and slept under multiple blankets. Not our favorite weather by any means, especially since I always get nose bleeds from the low humidity. My husband's leg has worsened somewhat, he really has a tough time getting around and must use a walker around the house and a wheelchair for any distances. So, his doctor now set an appointment for home visits with an occupational therapist and a physical therapist. They have been coming each week to work with him. A short while after Christmas, your Christmas card arrived. Thank you very much, I loved the card and the note! Sorry for letting you know so late. On the 19th of January, Ryan got Covid. He felt really bad for a little over a week until finally he was fever free for 24 hours and was no longer contagious and could go back to school. We all worried for him and for ourselves, to see if any of us would also get Covid. Luckily, all of us who were exposed have so far been symptom free. I lost 7 pounds from the stress of it all and Ryan lost weight from the illness. Plus, during the time he was sick, we again had nasty weather, two freezing nights and then days of heavy rains. Not a fun January. Luckily, today was sunny and fairly warm and it will stay that way through the rest of the week. Sorry for not getting on LJ, but there were just too many things going on. Glad to see you had a nice Christmas and were able to relax.

Sorry to hear you guys had such a rotten time. *hugs* Not the right method for losing weight, is it?
Thanks for staying in touch, despite rough times. It means a lot to hear from you, especially when you share a bit about your own life. :)
