Advent 2023 - Day 4
Dec. 4th, 2023 06:00 pmI was busy today. Very, very busy. Well, I usually am, but today was more so than usual.
In the morning I got up almost two hours earlier than is my wont because I needed to do the grocery shopping and wanted to get the things they had on offer. That said, I spent an ungodly amount of money, but in the long run it will pay off.
I also went to the post office to send my Christmas cards on their way - another costly thing. Compared with last year, I was definitely shocked. But this is the only way I can make (more or less) personal contact with my online friends, so it was worth the costs.
I visited three of the shops that sell craft supplies and bought some small things that I didn't really need but couldn't resist. Could you resist small silver bells in various sizes or an amazing 45cm by 50cm piece of pale blue gaze, dotted with dark blue and silver stars? I certainly couldn't. And I also bought small sized felt sheets, with the argument that this way I won't have to cut up the regular size A4 sheets just to make small items. Yeah, I know. What would we be without our excuses?
In the afternoon I made another Christmas garland of tinfoil baubles and another surprise box. And I decorated yesterday's biscuits; well, the ones that needed to be decorated. By which occasion I realized that ready-made Sacher cake icing is horrible to use on biscuits and that my long-kept hazelnut Krokant had gone bad and must wander to the rubbish bin.
That last part made me really sad; I bought that Päckchen in Vienna, I think, and it wasn't cheap. Alas, no-one had told me back then that these things must be kept in the freezer; by the time I froze it it was probably already too late. Unfortunately, these things aren't available over here; or probably only online for bakers to order them, like the Mokkaböhnchen, and delivery would cost more than the ingredients themselves. Ah, well, I used Hagelzucker instead, but the walnut-nougat biscuits would have been sooooo much yummier with the Krokant! :((
But I'm done with baking till Thursday, so I can turn my attention towards my Christmas quiet book for the next two days.
