My epic shopping tour
Sep. 21st, 2023 07:36 pm... started at 9.30 in the morning, when I paid Lidl and Aldi respective visits. Having found everything I needed (although I managed to break an egg on my way home), we had breakfast and watched Richterin Barbara Salesh - Das Strafgericht, mostly for the odd chance to catch a glimpse of her dog, which is the ugliest animal on this planet but very funny. No dog today, alas.
After that, I rode the tram to the Savoy Park shopping centre, where I went to Kik first, with the hidden agenda of getting myself a lightweight cardigan - a woven one, not a knitted one. Or is that called a jacket? In any case, the fact is that my arms are often cold, even by pleasant temperatures, and I needed something that would protect them, without giving me a heat stroke. I found one, a fairly pale rose colour, which was almost perfect: Size 46, just a tad too snuggly on the upper arms. Size 48 would have been the perfect thing, but they didn't have that. So I bought the Size 46 one, in the hope that the sleeves will become more loose when I wear it often enough. In any case, it was a nice surprise to fit into a Size 46 anything, even if it is a loose cardigan; a couple of years ago I always bought things in Size 50/52 - XXL or XXXL for those not familiar with European size systems.
Invigorated by my success, I went into the shoe shop next because I desperately needed a new pair of slippers. Well... two new pairs of slippers, that is, since both the inside and outside ones are in a sorry state. I saw some very lovely, feminine ones, with a pastel pattern in rose... but I couldn't squeeze my feet into them. Not even into the ones that were - in theory - four or five sizes too large. So I went over to men's footwear and bought a pair of men's slippers, Size 41. I used to wear Size 37 shoes, originally. Even Size 36, if they were built wide enough. Unfortunately, they only make long, narrow shoes in these days - even Birkenstock, which is a shame. I doubt I would be the only woman on this planet with swollen feet. But it can't be helped. Men's slippers it is, for the outside. I can always hop around in thick socks inside the house, right?
Now that the main goals had been reached, I also went to Tedi, the new-ish craft shop. They are in Christmass-y spirit already; I could have filled an entire shopping trolley with stickers, decoration and the likes. Fortunately, I prefer to make my stuff with my own hands, so I could resist. I only bought one small package of felt Christmas stickers - 9 pieces altogether, mostly with the intention to copy them eventually - and a package of mixed trimmings, the price of which was reduced by 50%. I think that much indulgence ought to be allowed.
Afterwards I also went into the Auchan supermarket to buy some more food that was on sale and a (Hungarian) crossword puzzle book. With the German ones
manue7a gifted upon me, and the two Heidi brought me from Germany, I'm well covered for the next two months or so. Perhaps I'll be lucky and find another inMedio newsagent's shop within reach that sells them.
When I got home, it was nearly 3pm; time for another bout of Richterin Barbara Salesch. We ate leftover soup with the yogurt-and-apricot buns or whatever I had bought, and that was yummy. After the show I played some Solitary and read some fanfic on my geriatric laptop, as I can do so with it lying down, and then we watched Money for Nothing. And now the day is nearly over.

Date: 2023-09-22 07:25 pm (UTC)Well done on finding a cardigan/jacket that you like. And I absolutely agree about the footwear. I have bitten the bullet on shoes and now spend quite a lot per pair on some from a specialist manufacturer (always last year's styles at half price!), as I realised that buying shoes hoping they would stretch, or would be fine 'if my feet weren't swollen', was actually more expensive as I then don't wear them. Whereas the Da Bella ones I wear and wear so get my moneysworth.
But then I found a pair of slippers that fit nicely on Amazon a couple of months ago for under £10 which was a real plus!
