Originally, I had planned to sew on the bells to the Wichtelmützen. Instead, I dug out the fabric for the textile book and made the heroic attempt to cut out the pieces for the cover. It took me more than an hour and included lots of crawling around on the floor on all fours (no other surface in the flat was large enough) and getting a very sharp pin into one finger. Which required desinfection and then some band-aid that would keep the bright yellow desinfectant from getting onto the pink, white and purple fabric. Fun, fun, fun! (NOT!)

But the deed is done now, the pieces are pinned together, and I think I've figured out a design that actually might work. Whether it truly does will show when I start on the sewing. I wish I could do it with Louise the Younger (= mini sewing machine), but no chance to produce a straight line; these electronic machines are simply too fast for me. So it will be hand sewing, which means the sewing lines will be slightly crooked, but (hopefully) less so than they would be if I let Louise loose on the fabric.

Still, I can't help admiring [livejournal.com profile] elwenlj, who does this thing voluntarily and all the time. This relatively small piece is scaring the living daylight out of me; I can't imagine making entire outfits by hand!

Not much else got done today. I peeled and pre-cooked the asparagus in the morning; tomorrow they'll be another improvised dish, with asparagus, fried breadcrumbs and tuna - let's hope it will be edible. I also peeled the potatoes for Mum, who volunteered to make the potato goulash. In our house, she makes the time-honoured family recipes and I make the experiments. That way, we have fun with new things but can eat sensible food from time to time, too. *g*

Later on, my friend Evie called, and we were gossiping for almost an hour. Now, that was fun indeed!
