Indulgence

I had to go to the Savoy park shopping mall today - aside from several other supermarkets - and visiting Kik and Tedi I fell victim to my paper love again. Remember, I said yesterday that I'd like to use up some of my stored papers before buying new ones? Well... it didn't happen, obviously. You won't even want to know the indecent amount I spent on craft papers - some with hotfoil, some without - but they were so beautiful! And imagine how much I could have spent, had I bought one of each collection available! But at least I worked up some self-discipline in the end...

The other main event of the day is that my Christmas card (and the little shepherd-with-sheep ornament) that I sent to [livejournal.com profile] red_day_dawning were returned today, with the hand-written note on the envelope: RTS - house demolished! Now I'm quite certain that I wrote the address correctly, and thankfully, she had just commented on one of my entries two days ago, so I don't need to panic, but what the heck happened? It is deeply odd!

As I spent half a day at the shops, we didn't cook today but had leftover Tütensuppe with some cheesy buns I bought at the Auchan supermarket. Mum and I are getting really practical with this cooking business, although I'm sure Grandma would roll in her grave. *g*

That is really weird about the card coming back ...

Ha — I'm doing better than you. So far I've not bought stationery, stickers or postcards this year. :-)

Huh, that is a very strange and specific note to have the card returned with!

Being practical with food does so much to make life easier, no shame about it. Gotta make it easy on ourselves when we need it.

Ah, I moved house. I moved from an inner city suburb, to an outer suburb near the Dandenong Ranges. My beloved landlord died, and his son sold the house to developers. Hence the destruction of the house! I couldn’t afford the inner city prices, and in fact it took me ages to find a new home. It was terrifying; the biggest growing demographic of the homeless in Melbourne and Sydney is women over 55 years. But we finally found a house. Here, I can catch a bus to a huge local shopping centre, and it is very convenient, but it can take up to two hours or more to catch a train to the city and the medical professionals I need. (Melbourne is a very sprawling city.). On the whole, I am very happy with the outcome — I now live close to Mum and can help her out more, and my sister is now close to her work. The house is great, and we have native wonderful birds here, and beautiful surroundings. So all is quite wonderful now even though it was a dreadful time. I still have nightmares about being homeless, or living in a car.
About paper, I too have a weakness for paper, specifically printed rice paper from Japan. I have boxes under my bed filled with the most gorgeous paper. I’m like a magpie, I can’t resist beautiful paper!

Batch cooking is the way to go. I cook three/four day casseroles, often combining them with microwave rice or store bought bread buns. Only having to wait for the microwave to 'ding' is wonderful.

Let grandma roll in her grave- it´s leisure time we need, when we get older!

I can imagine how frightening it must have been for you. Can you PM me your new address? If you don't mind the Christmas card and ornament arriving around Easter, that is. *g*

Oh yeah, beautiful paper... It's the shame we live on the opposite sides of the planet. Imagine the fun we could have together, indulging in our mutual paper addiction!

Oh, I completely agree! Not that I'd have had much leisure time since Mum's accident... and even when i have some, half an ear is always aimed at the other room. But you know what that's like, I don't have to explain to you of all people.

Actually, I don't even have a microwave, but batch cooking is a blessing.

Haha that explains it then! But a return notice like that would probably give most people a scare. :D

I only use a tenth of the paper, the rest I just hoard like a greedy dragon. There is a huge under bed box just for paper and craft supplies! And another just for art supplies!

Sounds familiar. I don't have extra bedlinens in the under bed box, either. *g*
