Today I dragged my handmaid Louise out of hiding to have her sew along the seams of the spine and the inner biding of Dani's quiet book.

For those new to my journal, this is Louise:

She is a small but temperamental creature, and I'm clumsy and clueless when it comes to sewing machines (save for Grandma's old, hand-operated Singer that, sadly, is long gone), so a joint venture is risky at best. But today Louise had mercy with me and decided to cooperate. Granted, the seams are a bit crooked even so, and made with pink thread (on a polka-dotted blue fabric), because I didn't dare to change it, out of fear that I won't be able to thread in the blue one. But since these are all hidden seams, that won't be a problem.

I've also pinned together the book in its final shape, just to see if I had cut the binding stripe the right size. I'm relieved to tell that I indeed had. Of course, tomorrow I'll take the whole thing apart again, as the pages need to be bound individually, but I'm beginning to believe that the book will come together indeed. *fingers crossed*

Not much else happened today. I postponed the food-hunting because it was raining intermittently all day, and we ate leftovers. Tomorrow, I will have to go out, regardless of the weather, but at least I've won another quiet day inside.

I talked to my friend I. on the phone. She's zig-zagging between the two grandsons all the time, cooking for the older one and playing with the baby and is very happy doing so. She's a fantastic grandmother.
