But the reason for that was actually pleasant. I met my friend Eeine for coffee in the Allee shopping centre, and that practically in the middle of the day. We couldn't make it otherwise, which meant, of course, that there was very little time I could put to good use, both in the morning and in the early afternoon.

Still, we had a lovely time together, and I got to visit the craft shop - a real craft shop - in the shopping centre afterwards. Got me some felt sheets, a new motif puncher, and self-adhesive strass gems - not that I'd have needed any, but they were sooo pretty! Yes, I am hopeless, I know.

I also bought Mum's birthday gift: a large ball full of Lindor chocolates, and a bottle of alcohol-free, peach-flavoured Kindersekt for the party later on.

On my way home I visited the small shop for sewing supplies that, unfortunately, is about to close, soon. It's always the most useful little shops that get closed, especially the ones I can easily reach. :( So I stocked up on plastic buckles, buttons and press studs of various sized - all stuff I often need for my felt work. I also bought some tulle, because my supplies are low on that, and I use it for various purposes.

Coming home, Mum announced that it is too late to cook lunch, and we should have coffee with sandwiches. Which we did. Tomorrow, there'll be cooking, I swear!

Also, preparing myself mentally for the birthday party, I downloaded some recipes I want to try out... not just cakes, but also savoury canapés. Prue Leith's beetroot blinis will be one of those - of course, since it's unlikely I'd get hot smoked salmon (and even if I would, I couldn't afford it) and caviar, but I think sardines would do nicely, too. Lamingtons and a hummingbird cake are also under consideration, as well as Mary Berry's Tunis cake. One of the guests is seriously allergic to lactose, so I'll have to be... creative with some of the ingredients. We'll see what I can do. ;)

So, there wasn't much time for crafting. I did sew on some parts of the space rocket, and currently I'm in process of fastening the tulle to the felt page base. There will be shooting stars to be moved under the tulle later.

Lamingtons? Can you share the recipe if it works out?

BTW — your Christmas card arrived today. Thank you!

It does sound like a wonderful time, coffee with your friend and then craft shopping.
You have got a lot going on with Mum's birthday party planning! Great ideas for the food! Ahh, lactose intolerance does mean some creative substituting of ingredients. But it definitely can be done, and you are so creative when it comes to cooking and baking, I do look forward to seeing what you come up with. Good luck!

Err... I'm not sure what you mean. Is that a brand of alcohol-free champagne?

So do I, honestly. Exposing guests with experimental recipes is always a risk.

I hear you about the little independent craft shops. Fabric, craft and knitting shops open and close pretty quickly in my small town too.

Last week I bought 200 grammes of smoked salmon for 5 bucks ( special bargain). The tin with 100 grammes sardines would have cost me 1,99 euros. Sardines are quite pricy here! So you are having a Robby Bubble Jungle party? This was my favourite flavour (though I think they called it Peach once, but Jungle sounds so much more adventurous!)

Yes, it's the only one I know, I thought there might only be one :)

It's just called Kindersekt over here... no brand name.
As for sardines, they are currently on offer at Aldi — I might buy a tin or two and save them for the party.

It is really sad. :(
Especially for one who never managed the task of online shopping.

That sounds like a nice day — and coffee and sandwiches would be a nice part of it, too.

What a shame about the little sewing shop.

And enjoy the planning for the birthday party — it is a pleasure in itself! (Some of our recipes are very easy to make lactose free as they are designed to be made with Stork not butter, but it does preclude adding fresh cream to them once baked!)

We don't get Stork over here, but I've been using the cheapest possible baking margarine for years, and no-one has ever had any problems with it. Not even the friend with lactose intolerance. Butter is waaay too expensive to use it for baking, I only take it for butter cream, which I make rarely.
