That's what we had today, and we enjoyed it very much.

I started the day with oversleeping by half an hour, which would usually turn my daily schedule upside down and make me all stressed out. Today, I just shrugged and went on with my to-do list without hurry.

We've postponed the weekly washing by two days because - according to Grandma's superstitions - what you do on the 1st of January, you'll be doing all year, and we didn't want to have a flat full of drying laundry every single day in 2023. *g* Mum volunteered to cook today - Sauerkraut Casserolle mit Hackfleisch, which is ridiculously easy to make and cooks away atop the oven without the need of any interference. All we had to do was to stir it occasionally.

Therefore I had some free time for crafting and made good progress. I've finished the little crab, done most of the Velcro job, and added two beads to Septie the sparkling septopus because it was whining about the crab having them. I'm now certain that Septie is a male septopus - the quality of the whining was particularly annoying. ;)) Now only the starfish is left, plus a few embellishments, and I can move on to the rocket page.

Afterwards, I solved some crossword puzzles and spoke to my friend Evie on the phone. Since the family can't be arsed to visit Mum as long as she's still with us, we decided to throw her a birthday party to which all my (ex-)colleagues who love her and who regularly come to us will be invited. Family doesn't always mean blood relations, after all. Evie was all for the idea, let's hope we can find a date that will fit most of the people.

What an excellent idea for a party! Definitely, time to celebrate with the people who actually appreciate her! I hope it will be a wonderful party. When is her birthday? Not that I can be there in person, but I can at least ask you to pass on well wishes!

Well, guess I'll do quite a bit of washing all year then.

There is a lot to be said for a quiet day :) And I think you definitely have the right of it when it comes to celebrating your Mum's birthday.

Sounds like a wonderful day.
It's so nice to have the holidays over. Much as I love them, it's nice to have nothing to do but sit and read after dinner and enjoy the lights on the Christmas tree!

Beady eyes are a must for any self respecting septopus. I spent a good part of yesterday sewing an under-collar to my back coat neckline. I was very much reminded of your velcro woes, as I tried to force my needle and thread through four (sometimes six) layers of thick fabric.

I must admit that I'm royally pissed at the younger generation. :( Let's hope my friends will be more willing to celebrate.

We haven't really seen them — with the exception of H, who dropped by oh, about two times — for two frigging years! The excuse is always that the kids are sick (= coughing and the likes) and they don't want to bring any germs to Mum...

Sadly, our holidays are always a little (?) lonely. But I can imagine that for you a time of rest would be a blessing.

I love quiet days, I wish I had more of them. Absolutely true, family doesn't have to mean relatives. I'm much closer to my chosen family than my blood relations.
